Shoreham EGKA UK to Malmo ESMS Sweden, August 2015

A little IFR trip report EGKA-ESMS http://www.peter2000.co.uk/aviation/esms/index.html It gives you the flavour of European light aircraft IFR ops. I am sure American pilots will say how good a life they have, and they would be right  But once you fly IFR, and provided you stick to...

Would this oil level sensor work on an IO540-C4D5D?

How does that happen when there is a pressure regulator?

Would this oil level sensor work on an IO540-C4D5D?

Not if the leak is before the oil pump.

Would this oil level sensor work on an IO540-C4D5D?

I had bought it anyway; arrived today. I posted a quick review here I am not entirely convinced of how robust it is... The problem with this sensor is that if it fails, you have an instant "brown trousers" moment and will head for the nearest airport regardless of cost (which in Europe could...

Would this oil level sensor work on an IO540-C4D5D?

No TSO, no nothing :) A typo above: I meant to say it cannot be installed on a certified aircraft.

Would this oil level sensor work on an IO540-C4D5D?

I am not going to install this device. It cannot be installed on an uncertified aircraft.

Do both altimeters have to be of the same type?

Don't worry - I will forget this proposition.

Do both altimeters have to be of the same type?

It is a Socata TB20, Part 91. Do you have a reference? This is for the RHS.

Do both altimeters have to be of the same type?

I have the KEA130A on the LHS and a similar looking "cheap" one on the RHS (United Instruments). LHS: RHS: Both are as fitted in the factory, year 2002, and the aircraft was built to the US Type Certificate. It is currently N-reg. I would like to replace the RHS one with the single pointer...

Would this oil level sensor work on an IO540-C4D5D?

Thank you all for your comments. The current consumption would be under 100mA (0.1A). The whole "system" is just a switch and an LED.

Would this oil level sensor work on an IO540-C4D5D?

here For $140 or so it looks a bargain, and in case of say a burst oil pipe would give you a useful warning. What would be the paperwork issues on a certified aircraft, US reg? It should be a Minor Alteration because it does not constitute a "basic change" to the oil system or the electrical...

    (UK) Shoreham to Scilly Isles

I have a load of European trip writeups here if you want to see how good you have it over there :) The ability to handle popups varies around Europe. A few countries do it OK; I believe Sweden and Germany are normally OK. Most others don't like it, or the clearance takes so long that unless...

    (UK) Shoreham to Scilly Isles

http://www.peter2000.co.uk/aviation/scilly/index.html This was a really nice one-day trip, done mostly VFR. Funnily enough, due to getting the IR in 2006 (the FAA one originally) it is the first "VFR" trip I have written up since 2005 :)

Shoreham EGKA (UK) to Lucca LIQL (Italy)

Munich, like most big European cities, is poorly served for GA. Augsburg EDMA is the best IFR option, with an easy train to Munich. Munich itself is open to GA but is about $800. L2K LFAT is easy. I went there last Saturday. Never seen any sign of officials there. Remember about 50 French...

Shoreham EGKA (UK) to Lucca LIQL (Italy)

Most Italian airports don't have avgas. There is a number of small places that have but are not allowed to sell it to visitors, but if you speak good Italian you can "negotiate" a "solution" the "Italian way" where a club member's airplane gets filled up but magically he fuel ends up in yours...

Shoreham EGKA (UK) to Lucca LIQL (Italy)

In general, airports in Italy, Spain and France do not reply to any communications. They expect you to read the AIP and just fly there (or not). The AIP for those countries is reasonably accurate; for some others "south of the Alps" it contains a load of garbage. Greece just notams its opening...

Shoreham EGKA (UK) to Lucca LIQL (Italy)

http://www.peter2000.co.uk/aviation/lucca/ Lucca is a very scenic walled city in Italy. The trip was done 19-22 November 2014, during a very rare gap in the weather. That gap almost didn’t work out but it was OK in the end… We did however get two outstandingly scenic flights: one VFR leg to...
