Hang in there Texan pilot. Don’t give up. I just went back and reviewed my dates. I started the medical process in NOVEMBER 2018. Got my medical in June 2018. We are in a bigger hurry than FAA. Flew back from Spring Texas to UCY yesterday in a little over 3 hours. I thought I had Hooks airport...

Flew to Spring Texas (suburb of Houston) Friday. Flying back home this morning. Took my eldest son for a pony ride to Fredericksburg yesterday. Remember I fly out of and train in Podunk USA. We flew into Hooks (KDWH) which is class D. I have flown into several class D airports and have been...

Where are you in Fl Salty? I am still learning. When I landed at Ocala the switched me over to ground for taxi instructions. I kept talking to ground and they kept talking to me but I could tell we weren’t exactly communicating. I then realized I was pushing the red button for the AP disconnect. Oops

Took a trip for seafood yesterday. Flew to Gulfshores Al. Left at 7:00 am. Rented a car at was eating seafood for lunch. Afterwards stuck our toes in the sand at FloraBama bar and grill. I got to watch my wife drink. Headed back to the airport for the return flight. They had our plane fueled up...

    First encounter with spatial disorientation.

My first experience with it was last week practicing night landings. I was used to watching the horizon during take offs. Can’t really see over the dash with the nose that high. I felt something was wrong, but wasn't sure. The attitude indicator showed me banking 20-30 degrees. There is no way...

    Fly's under bridge in PA

It wasn’t me. Of course if it WAS me, I would say it wasn’t me.

New Pilot, Trip over the Appalachian Mountains.

A few weeks ago a fast talking ATC got me confused and I gilflirted his instructions...more than once. After takeoff, as I was on my way..he radioed me and demanded I let him know when I am out of “HIS” airspace. I don’t think he was trying to say he’d miss me.

Lots of responses and opinions which I appreciate. It does make it tough when one guy says YES and the next says NO. But, to be expected in a public forum. As far as never using FF, I just haven’t. My CFI recommends I start using it. He plans to fly with me soon and help with it. It does sound...

Thanks for all the responses. I figured there would be drama so no big deal. Just to give a bit more information on myself. I only got my PPL last Wednesday. I am flying an A36 which I just bought August 5th. It does have GPS, a Garmin 750. Decided wife and myself would fly to Dalton Ga the...

Thanks for all the responses. Will be a great help. I found the Mount Mitchell on the sectional. Drove up there once in the fall. Wind was blowing up the mountain and freezing in early fall!

New Pilot, Trip over the Appalachian Mountains.

Hey guys. Ya’ll may think this thread dumb, but I know enough to be concerned. I am based in Union City Tn (KUCY) with friends in Hickory NC (KHKY). I plan to fly there and visit. I know the Appalachians aren’t the Rockys, but remember I am a flat lander. I have high water marks on my ankles. I...

Xscaliber. Thanks for the post. It is a learning experience. Always heard the PPL is a license to learn. I believe it. I fly out of KUCY, which is a small non towered airport. I have flown into KPAH several times which is Class D. I am going to start with flying into more Class Ds first...

As of noon today I is a pilot with a PPL. So glad that is accomplished. Took the wife up today for the first time with her in the cockpit. We were flying 225 miles to eat at a Chilis, but the weather was bad so we diverted to Paducah. $250 worth of fuel, $25 Uber fees and a $40 meal. $100...

I still don’t have a pilots license. I am disappointed but pleased if that makes sensed. I bombed a pretty simple landing, a soft field. I have plenty of excuses I could make. But the bottom line is I wasn’t on my A game and messed it up. After making a crappy landing I still could have saved it...

Start my check ride in 30 minutes or so. Think I am prepared as well as I can be. Time will tell. If I don’t pass, they can’t shoot me. I’ll just come back until I do. BUT, wish me luck.
