    Good plane, no logbooks….

Question: how much of a price penalty would you place on Cub, Champ, or similar if it had no log books but was in excellent shape otherwise with current annual, registration, & flown regularly. Although important, I’m thinking an older simpler plane would be less affected by missing logs as...

    Plane Prices

^truth Opportunity usually only knocks once. Sometime you gotta just go for it. I did that on all 3 of the planes I've bought and thus far I haven't regretted any of them.

    2021 flight hours

80.4 hours total for me in 2021. Roughly 3/4 of which was my 172 and 1/4 was in the J-3 cub. Not a bad year overall. How was your year in terms of general aviation flying?

    Installing heat in hangar

Figure $3-5k to install a 60,000 BTU suspended gas unit heater. Gas company treats airplane hangars as 'commercial' accounts so they bill you $35/month fees plus whatever gas you use. Mine ends up costing $70-80 per month to heat in Northern Illinois, and I keep it around 50 degrees. As...

Piper Cub School...enough interest to start one?

it's for sure not a 'get rich quick scheme'! More of a side hustle from my day job.

Piper Cub School...enough interest to start one?

So, let's say a guy could put together enough scratch to buy 3-4 Piper cubs, find an old school grass strip airport, and wrangle 2-3 young CFIs into teaching. Do you think the there could be a case to start a little flying school that caters to the 'grassroots' and 'stol' crowd? Like maybe...

    Piper J-3 cub values

So, I see Cubs listed on the usual sites (barnstormers, trade-a-plane, etc) for between $35-$60k but they always seem to linger a long time. Some of them are really nice, like showpiece quality. I’m potentially in the market for one, but was hopeful to find one sub $30k, nothing showpiece...

    [NA]Secret ammo sources[NA]

A little over a year ago around here they couldn't hardly give ammo away. It was cheap and plentiful. This happens all the time with ammo, it just swings one way or the other depending on current political leadership. In a year or two it will probably be plentiful again. When it does come...

    Looong XC Concerns

My advice, don't overthink it, just do it. Bring a credit card, iPad w/ Foreflight, cell phone, and some basic hand tools. You'll be fine. If weather gets iffy, just land and wait it out. I did FL to IL VFR when I bought my plane. I had about 150 hours TT. It was a blast.
