    Hypothetical Trainer: IFR Certified Tomahawk

I always thought wanted some hours in one, but haven’t seen them for rent anywhere.

    R22 vs Hughes-Schweizer H269C

I know they have a reputation for pretty poor performance, but I love the looks of the Brantly B2.

    R22 vs Hughes-Schweizer H269C

I’ve flown both a little. I much preferred the R22, but if the H269 was closer that’s probably what I’d fly. Would you travel further to train in a Cessna vs a Piper? Pretty much the same difference here. Now if you could find a place offering training in a Bell 47 that was a little further...

    Waco flying characteristics?

I flew a 1940 UPF-7 once and of the ~20 different makes/models of fixed wing aircraft I've flown it was the only one that really threw me. The roll/yaw coupling was really strange and taxiing was almost as challenging as hovering a helicopter. It gave me a new appreciation for those that fly...

    Rough first flight

But you can look up the weather ahead of time. It isn’t typically that much of a surprise. The CFI should have known at least a few hours ahead of the lesson that it was likely to be a rough ride and should have called the student and cancelled the lesson before the student wasted his time...

    Pilotless Helo

Interesting. The little I found on ALIAS sounds pretty interesting. I'd only ever searched for Sikorskys MATRIX technology and never quite saw how it was an improvement over the Lockheed/Kaman development. For others that are curious...

    Pilotless Helo

And Kaman did it themselves even earlier with the HTK-1K back in 1953.

    Pilotless Helo

Lockheed and Kaman did this years ago and flew it in Afghanistan for resupply missions.

    Alice: Electric plane

That’s a valid criticism. Piasecki Aircraft (his second company after the flying banana) does lots of interesting projects without a goal to go to production. How did work on their X-49 impact the development of Sikorsky’s X-2, S-97, SB>1 or Airbus Helicopter’s X-3? Did work by Carter Coper on...

    Alice: Electric plane

As an engineer that works in new product development I have a lot of respect for those that bring new products to life. It's hard to do and it's very hard to do in a profitable way. In my opinion the first step is to make sure that the work is grounded in reality and that the team making the...

Moller Synergy Raptor I'm sure there were others. Those are just off the top of my head There's a reason so many in aviation are so pessimistic when new players on the block claim revolutionary changes. And I'll leave this post with a quote - "Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous...

    Provoked Seizure

Personally, after my TBI I decided it wasn’t worth pursuing a 3rd class medical anymore. I haven’t flown much since then (nothing to do with the incident), but if I ever do start flying as PIC again it will be via basic med or sport pilot.

another vote for stick and rudder. One of the few aviation books I couldn’t make it through. I hated that book. Didn’t like the way it explained things at all.

I went to a guy in Bloomfield CT, I believe it was Mark Josel a number of years ago. I didn't have any real issues, but I left thinking I would not go back to him.

    Are Complex Aircraft Obsolete?

I always thought the arrow flew nicer than the fixed gear PA28s, 172s, etc. I’ve frequently rented them when the rest of a schools aircraft are booked and always enjoyed my time in them. In my experience RG aircraft have always had less renters/users than fixed gear aircraft at the local schools
