    Autopilot sensitivity

Aircraft: PA32R-300, GNS430W, Sandel SN3308, CenturyIII. When I first purchased the aircraft in 2005, it had a non-WAAS GNS430 and the autopilot tracked the course well in all selected options (NAV, OMNI, HDG, etc). When I had the GNS430 upgraded to a GNS430 (2009), I started seeing...

How would you change the multiengine checkride?

Maybe the some of the answers would be to expand on the BFR where the CFI can really get into the type of flying you really do, in the aircraft you normally fly. Most of my BFRs since 1986 have been more of the "show us that you won't kill anyone" vs. a real review of skills that I learned for a...

    102 pounds

In the original owners manual include in the plane upon purchasing it, I found the W&B page for my a/c actually had all the blanks blank. There had be a document update and someone replaced the page without copying the original data into the blanks. The a/c was 29 years old and there was no W&B...

    Identify these antennas

I toned out my hand-held cable and it turned out that the bent antenna on the bottom was for the handheld. So, the top antenna that I thought was the hand-held may be the old loran. It looks like a com, but it is a little longer. I have attached a pic. The rod part is 19.5" long. Thoughts? Also...

    JPI EDM-900

The fact that the engine was being reinstalled for a rebuild should have lowered the numbers more. Makes me think they first started the engine with the old stuff, then did the installation of the JPI as a separate job.

    Are Complex Aircraft Obsolete?

Last year, my Lance was about $2400. This year, it was the same, until I bumped the value from 140k to 225K which increased it to about $3500. But, I do have over 400 hours in a Lance and I do have a commercial ticket, both of which I am told reduces the cost. (The value was adjusted based on a...

Super large wall planning VFR charts for a hangar

Just talk to one of the many 'custom wall mural' companies found with Google. Point them to the downloadable PDF version from the government.

    Identify these antennas

I am thinking that the rounder one on the bottom may be my Storm-scope WX10a. I may just have to tone some of the coaxes and see where the go under the panel.

    Identify these antennas

There are two boxy things on the bottom. One squarish and the other move oval. Which one do you think is the ADF?

    First Buy and Understanding Taxes

Texas. For a private sale, you pay the taxes in the state you are basing the aircraft. In Florida, there is a form that is available from the state web site. I expect every state, including Texas will have it online. As long as you do it within a few months of the purchase, you should be OK...

    Identify these antennas

My aircraft has had multiple radio replacements. I know the loran and dme are long gone. I want to identify any antenna removal candidates. All but one top antenna is identified. The one unknown antenna on top is connected to a bnc connector in the rear passenger area. It's been there a long...

    Are Complex Aircraft Obsolete?

The renter's perception of his/her future is really the real question. If they are looking toward becoming a professional pilot, it is a good argument that they should be looking toward a TAA aircraft. But, if they are looking toward future ownership and personal use, they they 'should' be...

    Garmin GDL52R

I have a question on the GDL52R. For the ADS-B/In antenna, can I temporally (6-months) use an existing VHF antenna that is installed to a bulk-head BNC labeled 'hand-held'? The best location for a new, dedicated antenna is under the back seat, but I would rather run the new coax when I have the...

    Anyone watch Jimmy's World?

I don't know Jimmy personally, but I know the guy that helped him haul the 3 planes back to FL. I have even seen of the Bo. Jimmy made his money in construction and from what the mutual acquaintance said, is not dumb, but likes to ham it up. My thinking is: Watch him if you want. Don't watch him...

"Procedure N/A at Night" - What is "night"?

After reading why they mark the charts such, I had already decided that I would not fly it at dusk because I figured the chart people knew better than me and I am not based there. I just wanted to better understand the regs involved. I thought it would not be sunset but instead civil dark, but...

"Procedure N/A at Night" - What is "night"?

Planing a flight to an airport where the procedure is N/A at night. I will be arriving about 'sunset'. If 'sunset' is defined as 16:39, 'civil twilight' as 17:06 and assuming that the approach would take 5 minutes to fly, what is the latest time that I can be 'cleared for the approach' by ATC?

What other professions are okay with late-night messaging?

I am in IT and manage a data center. It's 'normal' for me to communicate with some vendors at night or on weekends. In fact, I ran a test this morning for a vendor in response to a 3am email from him which I responded to him early this morning. We text at all hours, including 2 or 3 am. If we...

    Category 8 Ethernet Cable

I doubt that the hardware ports on your equipment supports anything above 1GB. 10GB Copper ports are just now finding their way into the home-pro market, and they are not cheap.

    High on final, overshooting final.

I just can't get around the fact that on the missed landing, there are no hands on the yokes or power leavers. This has got to be very good graphics on a simulator.

    Signiture lines

Researching that now. A friend suggested I get a license since I was already a pilot. He has made some model suggestions but I have not settled on anything yet. I am going to get with him and play with his some too. I was rally impress how much the moving map showed when was taking some pictures...
