    Hershey bar wings and landing

For me, I don't worry about the speed so much. I just do the recommended short approach speed and then try to be out of back elevator when I touch down on the mains. Make sure you're looking at the right spot out the window so you can coordinate being out of elevator and the wheels touching the...

Tower at KHND nearly did me in yesterday

I would have said, "Um unable. I'm going to need a headwind at my weight." The controller is not going to want to be the one on duty if it doesn't go well. If the controller has been around for any length of time, he/she knows the consequences.

Thoughts on Progressive Lenses For Flying

I use Wayfarer Ray Bans from Lens Crafters with my Rx for near and far and I can see everything fine. Traffic at long distance, to the panel at medium distance, to my iPad mini (Garmin Pilot) close up -- with no problems. Actually, only problem is the cost. They are like, $600. Killer.

Most unwelcoming airport - Chicago O'Hare ORD

I have to say, New York is fantastic! Best class B in the US. If you are in Connecticut or eastern Long Island, the NY class B (with 3 NY airports) sits between you and points south (like New Jersey). It is a long way around. Fortunately, they will let you fly direct to JFK at 5,000+/- and then...

    B17 crash at Dallas.

This is without question the best analysis so far. My takeaway is that show lines are not enough. Inside aircraft must also have a hard deck (minimum altitude) to separate aircraft vertically in the event that they lose situational awareness horizontally relative to their show line. Great point...

    B17 crash at Dallas.

Facebook runs the ads on all videos if you don't pay for the premium service. I saw no ads.

    B17 crash at Dallas.

I just watched Juan Browne's analysis on his YouTube channel and have totally changed my opinion on the collision. Stellar analysis. When I first watched the Twitter videos, I came away with the opinion that it whas the fault of the P63. Now I believe it was poor advance planning that happened...

    B17 crash at Dallas.

His Facebook page. It has some in-cockpit video of the B-17 flying right next to him. Such a tragedy. https://www.facebook.com/craig.hutain

Talk me out of renewing my AOPA membership

I'd like to see Mark Baker on a few forums showing support for us. It is like they are in some lofty tower like royalty that can't be bothered with the rank and file. I don't care if he is "busy". Has anyone had any sort of personal interaction with him? Has he ever participated on a forum post...

Setting Kohlsman to allow agl indication?

Has to make things a bit tougher when ATC calls out traffic. Especially if they are closing and are +/- a few hundred feet. No thanks.

    New Narragansett RI TFR

Anyone notice a new (odd) "security" TFR in the area off shore between Block Island RI and Newport RI between the surface and 400ft? "Pilots who do not adhere may be intercepted, detained, and interviewed by law enforcement. It is a odd squared off area. But seriously, WTF? Tired of airspace grabs.

    Controlling Agency Using Garmin Pilot

I have not. I've looked at the street map once, but wasn't a fan. I'll have to take another look at it. Could be very beneficial when flying hard IFR and there is an engine out. I use iPad mini and spit screens are small, but I'll give the aeronautical and street map thing a try. Bizarre...

    Controlling Agency Using Garmin Pilot

Yes. If I am in VFR sectional mode, when I click on an airport, I can get the frequencies for the airport. It is only when I click on special use airspace in sectional map mode where I have the problem. I'm liking the new VFR map vs the sectional. Plus it gives me the freqs of special use...

    Controlling Agency Using Garmin Pilot

Ah ha! I went into "Map/Chart" and I changed the map from a VFR "chart" (the old school VFR sectional) to VFR under "MAPS". It now shows the freqs. Seeing your screen shots helped me figure it out. Apparently using the "sectional map" doesn't give the complete info when you click on the airpace...

    Controlling Agency Using Garmin Pilot

It is only showing airspace limits but not frequencies. It is a subset of what we'd see on the paper charts. I thought maybe the airpace was active continuously, so therefore it didn't have a controlling agency or freq, but every one I click on only shows dimensions of the airspace.

    Controlling Agency Using Garmin Pilot

I use Garmin Pilot and mostly monitor the VFR sectional as I fly. In the days of paper charts, I could find the controlling agency for special use airspace on the back. Using Garmin Pilot, I can click on the airspace on the sectional and it will give me the limits, but not the controlling agency...

    Just wow

I have no idea. Just know the FISDO was called, perhaps by a certain crusading pilot with bad judgment?

    Just wow

I'm pretty sure someone called the FSDO right after this landing when the Piper authorized FBO tried to move the Arrow from Atlantic to the West side of the field for inspection and repair. As if the Arrow pilot didn't have enough headaches. Seems the FSDO was called was called along with...
