    A career in aviation...

+1 @CC268, I've been in your exact shoes. I got a BSME some 20 years ago, have worked for large industrials, have designed, done analysis, lead teams, climbed the ladder, got post grad degree. Yes a lot of time in cubicles, lost many hours of my life in meetings. While I've had a lot of job...

    Gliding Distance

It's a simple matter of weight ratios. A 5 ounce bird cannot carry a 1 pound coconut.

    Two Greens...

So this is a really good learning. With two pilots, we should have verbally communicated who was doing what. "My aircraft; you work the checklist" might have lowered the tension level substantially. I'll reread those CRM materials with fresh eyes!

    Two Greens...

@eman1200, POH procedure is to check master on; check breakers in; panel lights off; check gear lights functional. If all fail proceed with emergency down sequence. So we could have worked it in more structured way rather than the rush we were doing. Moreover, to @denverpilot's points, I think...

    Two Greens...

Working on transitioning from Warrior/ Archer to an Arrow, so training for my complex endorsement. Flight today was to be a short hop with a few TNG at destination with my CFI. Entertering the pattern, prelanding checklist done, slow below 130, gear down ... Two greens. Negative nose gear. Slow...

    Fooled by the TAF...

Lately I have been using the model output data (MOS) shown in foreflight in addition to the TAF and discussion to get a clearer idea of what's going on - to triangulate my own idea of what might transpire. Also the NWS is another good data point with the charting tool. Presumably they are all...

Runway closed, can I take off on taxiway

I seem to recall Mayor Daley encouraging pilots to take off via taxiway: http://www.airspacemag.com/flight-today/day-shut-down-meigs-field-180952788/

What would make you rent more?

I always figured it is an insurance requirement, regardless I highly value the checkout in a new A/C as it seems no two are the same and usually have some nuance they want you to know - avionics switch moved here, door latch is sticky, fire extinguisher is here. Dont think I've experienced...

What would make you rent more?

I agree. But I also agree with the guy who can't do a family X-c because Bobby needs 1h in the pattern. How about a way to contact other renters and negotiate?

What would make you rent more?

As an operator, I'd be cautious about any scheme that pressured pilots to rent during a given window or on short notice. You don't want to have anything in your operations that could be tied to an accident- was in a rush so didn't preflight, didn't get full weather, went into MVFR because the...
