Going around the whole country - where would YOU go?

I second Sedona and add in the Grand Canyon... After you leave Mackinaw stop in at Kalamazoo, MI. The Air Zoo museum there is excellent and you can park your plane right there and walk in. Every aircraft in that museum is a showpiece. They have both a SR-71 and a F-117 too. I'd also...

    Pittsburgh, PA area airports

We had a good trip to Pittsburgh. We landed at AGC (Allegheny County) and got quick fuel service from Corporate Air. We then got an Uber to take us to our hotel. Since we were going to the Pirates game that night we got a nice room at the Residence Inn which is right across the street from...

    Comm radio replacement costs?

I had a shop replace an old KX170B Nav/Com radio with a new Garmin GNC 255 Nav/Com radio last year. The new radio was ~$4500 and the labor was ~$2000. Another option I considered was replacing the old KX170B with a new or used MX170B/C which were slide in replacements. That would have been...

    Info on Niagra Falls

I'll be in a Cessna 170. I actually fly out of Geneseo, IL so it would be fun to stop in at Geneseo, NY. Any chance there is a courtesy car at D52?

    Pittsburgh, PA area airports

Thanks for the comments on AGC. Any FBO preference? Corporate Air vs. Atlantic? I called them and got their fees... seems like Corporate fees are slightly lower.

    Pittsburgh, PA area airports

I'm considering stopping in the Pittsburgh area in a couple weeks. My wife is a Cubs fan and they will be playing the Pirates when we are flying in that part of the country. Any suggestions on best airport in the area? Any hotel suggestions by the baseball stadium? Thanks!

    Info on Niagra Falls

My wife and I are planning a flight here in the next couple of weeks. I'm aware of the special air traffic procedures over the falls. Any suggestions for other things to do in the area, best airports, best hotels? Are Uber/Lyft rides available to get from the airport to the falls? Is there...

[NA] I'm Considering a Career and Location Move

I'm over in NW IL, near Moline. The Quad Cities is a nice area. Easy to hop onto I-80 to go to Chicago if needed. If you don't like IL taxes or politics, you can live on the IA side of the Mississippi. What kind of job are you looking for? John Deere seems to be hiring a lot.

    Weird but useful lesson.

I once had a contact lens blow off my finger at the outside mirrors by the showers at Oshkosh, never to be found again. It was the morning I was going to depart. Luckily I had a pair of glasses with me as well. I've since had LASIK and wish I would have done it 15 years sooner. I'll...

    Headsets for Wife and Kids

I highly recommend Lightspeed Sierra's. They are $650 new, but you can get $150 off each one by sending in some old broken David Clark headsets. I did that for both of mine. If you don't have any old broken DC headsets, I'm sure some of your flying buddies will. The Sierra's have ANR...

    Itinerary for Michigan tour

Stop in at Kalamazoo, MI to go to the museum (Air Zoo). Check out the Sagatuck/Holland area for nice beaches, shops and I think Holland has a tulip festival in May. On the way down the western shore stop in at the EAA museum at Oshkosh, or check out a WW2 submarine at the Wisconsin Maritime...

    Commercial License - How Hard?

Well, I did my instrument training in a TAA so I have probably 20-30 hrs with an instructor and then I have 9 hrs with an instructor in a complex aircraft. The 9 hours in complex were specifically towards a commercial rating but I ended up moving and had to stop (10 years ago). I could easily...

    Commercial License - How Hard?

Side question.... If I have more than 10 hours in a TAA or in a complex aircraft, can I take the checkride in a non-TAA or non-complex airplane (my Cessna 170 for example)?

This upset me more than maybe it should have

cowtowner, I keep my plane at the small airport that you and the accident airplane were visiting and just heard about this accident last night. It is hard to understand how the pilot got into this situation. Prayers go out to his family.

    Door Steward info sought

I installed them on my 170 and kept the original stop/catch at the top of the door. You can adjust where you put the gas cylinder bracket on the door and it will drive what the open position is. If you keep the factory stop then you have two items controlling the door if there is a gust and on...

    2 G5's vs. Aspen 1000 Pro Max

From the G5 installation manual... there are two temp probes that are approved for the GAD 13. The Garmin one and a Davtron one. The Davtron one is definitely less expensive. Either way, the G5's do need their own probe.

    G5 Firmware Update 7.21

I haven't yet, but I sent an email asking for what the software changes were. Here is the response I got. The improved battery charging sounds the most intriguing.
