    PIREPS on Avemco?

Thanks for that...good to know. You might want to get a quote from them next time around. They are about $600 less for me this time. It seems they have made a decision to be more competitive.

    PIREPS on Avemco?

Not so this year. Have 12 quotes and they are lowest for SR22...under $2,500, which is amazing.

    PIREPS on Avemco?

FWIW: I had a major claim this year for $43K. Since it was not my fault, it did not impact my rates. My current company was great during the claims process (W. Brown & Associates). I got them through Wings Insurance (A broker). Happy to refer anyone to my broker.

    PIREPS on Avemco?

For the first time ever, my lowest insurance quote this year was from Avemco. They have always been the highest. Has anyone had experience, good or bad, with filing a claim with them? Any PIREP's appreciated! (There's a horror story posted here, but I never know if I can trust these on-line...

Cirrus on a 'chute in Addison

From a Cirrus guy whose buddy just died due to lack of a parachute in a Bonanza... My buddy, one of the most meticulous pilots ever...newly minted IFR (same time as me)...had to land fast in a field due to lack of parachute. Field ended up having unexpected rocks. He died from blunt force...

Almost soloed again after 15 years

I got signed off after 40 years of no flying...and had many bad days along the way. I then bought a plane, got my high-performance endorsement, and then just passed IFR. You can do it! And there will be many days when you wonder if you are up for it...all normal.

KVNY Air / Car Show & Fly-in: This weekend!

For those not aware, the first annual KVNY Prop Park air / car show is this weekend. The main day if you are going to come is Saturday. There will be many aircraft on display, including my favorite - the venerable DC3! http://vnyprop.org/wp/?page_id=669 and see attached. My plane will be...

    Really Fun IFR Exercise...

I have no idea, but I heard it loud and clear. Interestingly, it sounded just like the voice in my Cirrus when yes...below 1000'...the plane cautions me if my descent rate is above a certain value (not sure what it is). The difference is this happened three times, between 7,000 and 20,000...

    Really Fun IFR Exercise...

LOL...didn't notice. Always fun to try to figure out where WP names come from. Now I know on those two!

    Really Fun IFR Exercise...

Every time we descended faster than about 4K feet / minute, it came on...3 times total...during which the plane really was descending fast...probably 5K feet / minute.

    Really Fun IFR Exercise...

Cool...yes I use Flightaware but just used it to verify the flight path. All makes sense. Now if someone will just hire a 63 year old IFR pilot!

    Really Fun IFR Exercise...

    LOL...well now I don't feel like such a total out-there nerd.

    Really Fun IFR Exercise...

OK...so I really have the aviation bug...today, KSEA to KBUR, I'm was a passenger on Alaska Airlines. Sitting at the gate, I use ForeFlight to figure out the most likely Cleared Route ATC would give for flight AS578. I load it into ForeFlight...every single waypoint...on my iPad and iPhone...

Bonanza Down Near Whiteman Airport (Pacoima) - 1 Fatality

From a reliable source: Witnesses, including a pilot who arrived at he scene within a couple of minutes, said there was no fire and no fuel smell. This is being treated as a fuel starvation incident. It's a mystery, because multiple witnesses saw Scott fill the tanks and check them visually...

    IFR Currency At Home

Yes I do. All Flythissim's come with a framed FAA letter of certification. Technically, it's supposed to be on the table with the sim whenever you are logging time.

So Cal to Seattle - Route / Stopover?

Flying from So Cal (KWHP) to Seattle next week. My Cirrrus can almost make it non-stop with reserves, but my bladder probably can't (just over 4.5 hours). Any suggestions on route or a lunch stopover point? Perhaps Reno? Or make it longer and hug the coast for better scenery? This will be...

    IFR and Bravo

From the OP: Sorry you are "concerned". I just got 92% on my written and ace'd the Oral and Practical on the first try with a comment from the DPE that he wished all students were as prepared as I was. I could tell you 20 other things I've "learned" since getting my IFR ticket that might...
