    Can I enter Class C...?

Interesting...though...the 2 way has to be with the Tower, at least I thought. Folks above say if it’s TRACON, I’m good. Next question...how do I know if it’s TRACON? I’m mean, to me, it’s called So Cal Approach. Is that TRACON for the Class C?

    Can I enter Class C...?

Taking off from KCNO 26L VFR straight out puts you right below the Class C shelf for KONT for a few minutes. Take-off VFR instructions are to "maintain runway heading at or below 2,500". The Class C shelf is 2,700. So far, so good. Switching to Flight Following, I hear, "N324CD cancel...

Any insights into Crescent City (KCEC) or KBOK (Brookings)?

I was going to fly my Cirrus today from So Cal to KCEC (3.5 hrs), but wow...the wind...yesterday aggressive gust / crosswind conditions and more today...forecast 17 - 25kt 40 degree crosswind. Yesterday forecast was the same, but METAR was even worse. ForeFlight comments point out wind issues...

    So Cal WAAS Approach?

OK, so my plane is finally ADSB / WAAS. What’s a fun first WAAS approach in So Cal? Never flown one.

    ADS-B ATC Test

Headed to airport to pick up my plane which has new ADS-B. Do I have to test it with ATC on the first flight? I found this tool: https://adsbperformance.faa.gov/PAPRRequest.aspx But I'm also wondering if I just get flight following on the way home and they will tell me if all's OK. Any...

    IFR Approach Type Matrix

No. My plane comes back with WAAS today. I want to review approach types. For example, one post above is inaccurate I believe...that only ILS is precision. I believe LPV is also.

    Drunk Delta Pilot

Beyond putting lives at risk, it boggles my mind that someone would do what it takes to reach the airline level and then drink before flying. I mean, many of us know what it takes to just get to IFR, let alone ATP, multi, type, build up hours, get through interviews. And then drink. I just...

    IFR Approach Type Matrix

I’m a 2.5 year IFR pilot and get rusty from time to time on all the different approach types...which are precision, which aren’t, which require WAAS, which don’t. So many types: Localizer, VOR, RNAV: LNAV / VNAV LPV, LNAV, GLS, RNP, Baro VNAV. Has anyone ever seen a simple chart listing all...

    Oshkosh 2020: What Hotel?

Undecided...may even fly commercial. Just want to be near the show if possible. Looks like it’s all booked already!

    Oshkosh 2020: What Hotel?

Can’t believe I’ve never been to OSH. What’s the most convenient decent hotel? This time, I’m booking EARLY.

Safety Pilot for IFR Student? Legal?

Addendum from the "dumb", ignorant, "troll poster" OP: Yes, I recently passed IFR with a top score on my test and a comment from the DPE that I was one of the best prepared applicant's he had seen. He even contacted my CFII who was thrilled, because it helps his credibility. It's interesting...

Safety Pilot for IFR Student? Legal?

Thanks all for the guidance...I learned something...and especially appreciate the guidance from kath and others. To Tommar98...who was surprised I didn’t have 91.109 fresh in mind, one of the beauties of this site is as pilots we all know we don’t remember everything or know everything. Even...

Safety Pilot for IFR Student? Legal?

I'm IFR and current with medical. A CFII has asked me to serve as a safety pilot for his student who wants to shoot practice approaches under the hood. I am not a CFI nor a CFII. Would this be legal? Besides the legality aspect, I'm not sure I'm comfortable riding in a plane with a VFR...

KAVXThe good the bad and the ugly.

I parked there last week. Yes, it’s on dirt. At least where I parked, there was no gravel. I carefully inspected the area where I’d have to taxi before start up. And coming in, airport guys were there to help push me in. Not sure if that will always be the case though. Runway was great...

    IFR Pop-up - Legality

In theory you should get a pop-up clearance. In practice, this has become increasingly difficult in busy urban areas. I tried recently to pick up a clearance in the air, and the controller was not happy. In another instance, I was simply getting a clearance for a plan already filed (took off...

Basic Med to 2nd Class Medical - Risk?

OK...here's a new one...I think... I long held a 3rd Class Medical, and converted over to BasicMed two years ago (reminder to those who did the same: time to re-take the course or your medical is not valid!). Now I'm going on to Commercial after getting IFR ticket. Question: If I fail at...

    Piper Arrow purchase advice

Bet you can get an incredible bargain right now. I know someone selling a pristine retract and can’t seem to give it away. There’s a surplus of retracts due to FAA’s decision not to require complex time for Commercial if applicant uses a TAA (Technically Advanced Aircraft) instead. Prices...

Temp Hangar Space KPSP (May 10 - May 12)

I go to KPSP Palm Springs on a regular basis, but hate leaving my plane out in the HOT desert air...gets up to the 120’s from time to time. Anyone know where I can rent temp hangar space? Next trip is May 10 - 12. I have contacted the FBO’s. They want $115 a night! Thank you.

    Garmin 430 / 530 Simulator

Tried it...this is the old app for XP. It downloads fine and even boots up on Windows 10. But clicking on the Power / Volume button does nothing...it's basically DOA...at least for me on 2 different computers. Oh well...
