It always turns into a nightmare but is still 100% worth it.

Trip along East coast US - Suggestions to land with chopper

Don't know if your flight path goes through Maine but if it does you can stop off at Dolphin Marina and Restaurant. You can land in the grass. https://www.thedolphin.me/directions.html

    Question to NYC chopper pilots

when you sign up for a ERHC membership you'll get access to the backend of their website where they have heliport procedures and prices for the 3 NYC heliports (JRA, JRB, 6N5) as well as the sudo private heliport at Kearny (65NJ). Another way to do it on a budget would be to fly a practice...

    Question to NYC chopper pilots

From what I can see a bell 206 is listed as $285 landing fee and $200 / hr parking and $250 overnight parking. Not sure if they’d charge a 505 at the same rate. I’d definitely call in advance to arrange it.

    Question to NYC chopper pilots

I wouldn’t do it that way. Lots of approach and departure traffic around. There are published helicopter routes that get you in and out very easily. My recommendation would be to take off from 34th heading north and switch over to LGA tower and either 1) ask for a westbound transition from...

    Question to NYC chopper pilots

If you're above 1100 you'll be in the bravo and on with LGA. Tell them you'd like to descend into the east river exclusion. Once you get the frequency change to 123.075 follow the procedures in the SFRA training. You call east 34th on the same frequency and say you are inbound to land and will...

Recommendation for overnight stop in Maine

Definitely recommend Portland. I’ve had very good experiences with Mac Jets at PWM. The FBO is top notch and fuel and hanger fees are very reasonable.

    GA airports around Boston, MA

Another vote for OWD. I fly in regularly and everyone from the tower controls, FBO manager, and on down to the line team are just fantastic. Fuel and fees are both reasonable and transportation into Boston is decent.

Solo own a 182 vs. 1/4 Partnership in a Cirrus?

My situation is similar to others’ posted above. For me it’s all about the flexibility. I use my aircraft for a mix of business and personal use and in the case of the business flights, I usually don’t know I need to go somewhere until the day before or day of and usually have to be out for a...

Solo own a 182 vs. 1/4 Partnership in a Cirrus?

Even though I think the Cirrus is a great airplane and the 182 is a terrible airplane, sole ownership is definitely the preferred route. For me the whole point of owning is to have the freedom to be able to fly anytime without having to schedule time on an aircraft, and to be able to take an...

    Fog

It's easy. Take a look at a map. If you are operating anywhere in the northeast / New England, you can expect fog.

    Pushing/ pulling on the prop

Dan Thomas is correct. A spinning prop is subjected to large centrifugal forces while operating and the thrust force generated by the blades is designed to be supported while the prop is spinning. On many helicopters if the blades were to slow down or stop rotating in flight, the blades would...

Finally some real talk about EVTOL

Help me understand this. In the event of complete engine failure, an airplane can glide, a helicopter can autorotate. What are these multi/quad rotor eVTOL things supposed to do? And they are supposed to operate in the most congested areas. also, pilot or no pilot, all aircraft still have to...

    Best GA airplane?

182s are celebrated on these forums. I don’t see the draw. It can “do it all” but slower and for more money than alternative options. It’s the all season tire of airplanes- mediocre at everything.

As of 6/3/21, current used small aircraft market.

100LL is already averaging right around $7 in the NYC / LI area now so I don't know about that.

As of 6/3/21, current used small aircraft market.

it’s simple really. By not spending $20 on avocado toast, you have $20 more to put towards the overpriced $120k asking price on the 60’s vintage 172. At $20/ day it adds up pretty quick. all joking aside, these prices are nuts and people have lost their minds. Paying over ask sight unseen is a...
