    Best private pilot manual

I've always used the Airplane Flying Handbook for my students, but some have suggested that it's too hard to read. What do you use for private pilot instruction, Gleim, Sporty's, Help, Machado? I'm asking about a flying manual, not written test prep. Thanks!

    Flying Club membership for sale-KMKC

It covers insurance, hangar rent, I believe annual and they do 100 hours as well. In addition, some of that goes into an upgrade fund. Oil changes and airplane cleaning as well. I may be missing something too.

    Flying Club membership for sale-KMKC

A friend is selling his membership in Cloud One Flying club at Kansas City Downtown airport. The club has 18 members and owns a 1976 C-172 and a 1968 Piper Arrow. Both aircraft are in very good condition and are IFR. The club is well run with solid financials. Monthly dues are $150 and...

    Manifold Pressure question

Just finished re-reading a great article by John Deakins about manifold pressure. In it, he states to check the gauge before startup by obtaining the local altimeter setting (or setting field elevation in the altimeter) and then adjusting for the height above msl. The MP gauge should read...

Number of WAAS radios required for lpv approach

When I went back through and read it again, I caught the Part 25 statement.

Number of WAAS radios required for lpv approach

Here's where the requirement came from: Duncan Aviation If I install WAAS-capable equipment, am I ready to fly LPV approaches? Questions that we’re often asked are if I install WAAS-capable equipment, am I ready to fly LPV approaches? The answer is no. WAAS receivers cannot be...

Number of WAAS radios required for lpv approach

A friend told me that two WAAS-enabled GPS radios are required to shoot an approach that requires WAAS. Is this true?

Random drug test for aerial photography?

Case closed. I had read an older version of 91.147 which addressed "commercial sightseeing". It is now clear that any pax for hire requires random drug test.

Random drug test for aerial photography?

If I conduct a flight within 25 nm, with a photographer, for the purpose of aerial photography, does that fall under 91.147? I don't believe that it does as I would not be conducting the flight for sightseeing, but rather to produce pictures. This is assuming a commercial pilot. I also...

Reviews needed for a/c rental and instructor at Republic Airport (KFRG)

It seems I looked there before. Anyone have a recommendation for a flight school there? I think most folks referred me to FRG, that's why I focused on it, but I'm open to others.

Reviews needed for a/c rental and instructor at Republic Airport (KFRG)

I've never thought about TEB, everyone recommended FRG. I wasn't sure where to go at TEB or how much it'd cost. Any suggestions on flight schools at TEB?

Would taking the LIRR out from Manhattan be better? Any idea how long it'll take?

Reviews needed for a/c rental and instructor at Republic Airport (KFRG)

Okay, if I were to plan this to take off on say a Friday. Saturday, or Sunday about an hour before sunset, would FRG still be busy? I'd hate to spend an hour on the ground. Fwiw, I have no intention of doing this solo, I'll definitely have a CFI with me.

Reviews needed for a/c rental and instructor at Republic Airport (KFRG)

Yes, I was looking for perhaps someone specific. Also, I wanted to hear the pros and cons of the various flight schools. I considered going up to Bridgeport, CT, but I think it would be too far. I met a guy from Nassau Fliers at OSH last year when I was drooling over a Husky. I think I've...

Thanks for the ideas. I'll check out the ASA Far/aim. I already have the Instrument Flying Handbook and the Inst. Proc. Book. Any other tips or suggestions?

    Instrument instructor training material recommendations

All, I'm getting ready to start my CFII training soon. It has been a long time since I have been current IFR (like pre-GPS approaches). My plan is to get current IFR and then work on the instructor rating. I already have the Gleim book for the written, but I was wondering if any of you...
