How do you forget to lower the gear?

Just to point out the obvious, the whole purpose of the mindset is to remind the pilot that all of us are fallible and to prevent you from having a gear up... And, yes, I agree that most will not have a gear up landing, but your insurance premiums pay for the ones that do! :-)

How do you forget to lower the gear?

I have always been told to have this mindset: There are two types of pilots: Those who have had a gear up landing and those that will...

    Was I being unreasonable?

Clearly, I am in the minority here on this topic. However, all of these days later, we still have not answered the question on the open pilot clause and/or current medical(s) to determine if the flight was covered. The lack of a definitive answer on this issue leads me to believe that it was...

    Was I being unreasonable?

I don't think that we had gotten to the level of detail of the seating arrangements of this seemingly veteran, save the mechanic, crew...

    Was I being unreasonable?

I guess that I would have assumed that the "pilot-rated mechanic" was legal and left it alone. This may go against your by-laws, but there are two club members in the aircraft. Regardless and not to sound mean, I do not make it a habit to police other pilots unless there was a life-or-limb...

    San Diego tips?

Forget burgers - you're in San Diego! Go to a hole-in-the-wall Roberto's, Aliberto's, etc., and get a carne asada burrito and chips and guacamole!

    Daily Pic

Ahh, memories! I learned to fly out of Montgomery Field (MYF) in the mid-1990s. I soloed at Brown Field (SDM) near the Mexican border. My second time around, I followed a C-130 who had just dropped jumpers and decided to do a touch and go. Even though I touched down after him and rotated...

    Tales of a Rusty Pilot

Thanks for sharing. San Diego and LAX have VFR corridors right over the airports that are published. It is a shame that it is not standard wherever the terrain would allow (sea level in MIA, for example :-) )...

    Looking for Wisconsin day trips

Thank you very much!!! These are great ideas. I like having a "mission" (such as eating) when flying. Thanks again!

    Tales of a Rusty Pilot

That is very interesting to me. Do you use the free FltPlan Go app? It is great for situational awareness. I still use a sectional on my kneeboard, but I will look at the phone every 10 minutes or so... As you know, Wisconsin farmland is much different than Bravo, but the free tracking...

    Tales of a Rusty Pilot

Thank you for sharing. You were wise to continue with your dual. I have gone from a kind of fear in hour one of my comeback (wondering if I should even return to flying) to a hunger for more. I know that I get better with each flight and I am having fun at trying to become a better pilot...

    Looking for Wisconsin day trips

Hello, I am looking for day trips to airport restaurants/attractions in WI for the Mrs. and me. Pat O'Malley's Jet Room in MSN is on the list already. Home base is Watertown (RYV) and I rent a 172. Kid trip ideas are welcomed, too. Thanks in advance!!!

    Tales of a Rusty Pilot

Here is the update: On Saturday, 9/15, Jason and I agreed that I was safe and competent to be signed off on my Flight Review. It took me a total of nine flight hours and countless book and YouTube hours to shake off about 20 years of rust. I have since gone up solo to work on smooth landings...

    Tales of a Rusty Pilot

Thank you for sharing! Washington Island would be fun! I have racked up 7.8 hrs over about 6 flights so far and my CFI thinks it will be only a couple of more flights to get my confidence up to where it should be. Matching up his and my availability (aside from the area wx this past weekend)...
