    If true (since it's only "word on the street at this point"), declaring an emergency probably would have saved the pilot's life. With the reported pilot experience, he must have known what fequency to use, or was already monitoring it.

    My TSIO360FB had this exact failure a few months ago. Luckily, it did not happen in flight. We ended up replacing the fuel pump before discovering the faulty diverter valve. If you have the optional primer system -- get this done right away!
