Beech Baron 58 down in Sacramento

This image is from Kathryn's Report. The a/c appears to have impacted with little forward velocity, and the general arc followed by engines and tail section might be consistent with a flat spin... from

    Turning close call into self-promotion?

So help me learn here...what web page did you use to search for his data in the registry, and what search terms? I could not get that to work for me.

    Turning close call into self-promotion?

Okay, I confirmed that ... found Live ATC recording for Twr West #2 at KMCO has a 737 cleared for t/o 36R at 05:17 timecode, then at 06:00 this: N5254K, caution wake turbulence, traffic departing parallel runway, 737 northbound, turn right heading 090, climb and maintin 2000, rwy 36L, cleared...

    Turning close call into self-promotion?

Comparing the video, news story and flight track and pondering a bit, I think this may be what happened. Does it make sense? I was going to look for the full audio on Live ATC but there are a huge number of feeds for KMCO and I have no idea which departure frequency they may have been using...

    Turning close call into self-promotion?

Not sure this belongs under Mishaps...moderator can move elsewhere if that makes more sense. So, I ran across this story in the NY Post: https://nypost.com/2022/09/05/2-planes-nearly-collide-in-midair-above-orlando-airport/ ...and the photo of this guy standing next to a single engine Piper in...

Ready to buy new V-band turbo couplings?

No, I meant a link to your previous posting about his NPRM -- I'd like to read that discussion too...

Ready to buy new V-band turbo couplings?

Do you have a link to that? Also, what's "(EAB)" -- is that an experimental?

Ready to buy new V-band turbo couplings?

Coming soon to an AD near you! NPRM, docket 2022-0891. This is going to hit a very large number of turbo-charged aircraft. Mandatory replacement of V-band couplings under various time-in-service limits, with some leeway. For my a/c, FAA's estimated parts costs are off by a factor of 8-10. Oh...

How's about 49 U.S. Code 46316, 47306, or 49 U.S. Code 46505 ? In fact, I don't actually know if any of these would actually apply, but there's a good article about criminal liability in aviation here: https://www.avweb.com/aviation-news/criminal-liability-in-aviation/

    PA28 Fatal, Panama City, 6/6

Here's a scan of the preflight checklist from the Turbo Arrow IV POH -- just the nose section. Nothing on there requires removing the upper cowling. One point of note -- there is no alternator belt on the turbo model -- the alternator is mounted to the gear case on the back of the engine and...

Fire after gear collapse at MIA

Here's a video where you can see what might be the final gear collapse before coming to a stop. One source said the nose gear collapsed first. https://twitter.com/i/status/1539393661976313856

TrueCourse was asking about the cowl on the Turbo Arrow IV -- not the Arrow IV. The turbo model has a different cowl -- no hump in the middle, and different attachment.

Removing the top cowling half requires undoing about 15-20 half-turn fasteners. Just a door top-center for access to oil filler cap and dipstick. With two valve covers per cylinder, it's a bit more leak prone than some engines.

Wish we had more...like photos of the drops and the "small puddle". I don't know that particular engine, but with at least four valve covers, 16 pushrod tube O-rings, etc...it's often difficult to keep them entirely leak free (I can attest to this with the Continental TSIO-360 in the Turbo Arrow...

Looks like prelim is out, see KR for text and photo of oil puddle on ramp. Oil may have drained through hole in crankcase, but that's not entirely clear from the report. Video from FBO shows pilot may have skipped pre-flight inspection of engine/cowling area. Hard to believe that amount of oil...

Video and Discussion - Burley, ID accident. Was "Gryder"

Don't forget there is a witness who saw the a/c fly into the steam cloud. That person will likely be able to say whether the steam had just appeared prior, or was already there. This is something the NTSB will sort out, and it's frustrating for us that we must wait at least a year to find out.
