    China 25% tariffs

The party in the minority keeps tabs on the party in the majority. And with tw parties you always seem to have one with a majority.

First cross country solo...and a big mistake!

Start working on landmarks that tell you when you are close to the airport. Also familiarize yourself with your GPS, most downwinds are about a mile or two from the airport midpoint waypoint (find out where that is BTW). The GPS will tell you how far away from the airport you are.

Is it this hard for everyone?

I just looked at the advertised price of similar aircraft in Tradeaplane, Controller and Barnstormers. I didnt get a bargain price, but I was looking at airplanes that were low time, had the avionics I wanted and almost everything worked. What didnt work right I deducted for and paid the asking...

IFR: File to IAF or Airport?

Your question was a reasonable one. I remember wondering the same thing. Best to just ignore the negative comments.

Is it this hard for everyone?

Sometimes the asking price gets you what you want. Not that much difference in the total scheme of things. You don't have a problem that more money wouldnt solve. Remember, the cost of the airplane is the difference between what you pay for it and what sell it for some time later. That is what ...

If tariffs saved jobs, then why not BAN all foreign trade?

    China 25% tariffs

After the 1929 crash and depression they passed Smoot-Hawley bill, signed by republican Herbert Hoover, which was a bunch of tariffs to "save jobs". It backfired and made the depression worse. If you want to make people poorer, pass more tariffs. As for the USA being "taken" by other countries...

    Mogas

Octane only helps if the engine needs it. An engine needs octane so it wont knock. For non-turbo engines the higher the altitude the less octane an engine needs (because the absolute compression goes down because there is less air). If the engine needs the octane, it really needs it. It will...

Cost of Repairs to sitting 182

Planes like that are for people that want to repair and restore, not fly. They own something else to fly.

    Mogas

Some of the STC's for mogas for Lycoming engines recommend running one tank of 100LL every 20 tanks. There is no problem mixing mogas and 100LL (if you can run on it without knocking and have the STC etc).

    What planes should I consider?

If you can land a Cherokee, you can land a Mooney. Mooney's aren't hard to land at all. Just get your speed on final right, double check the gear, flare and hold it off. Lands just fine. Mooney seats are close to the floor, which puts your legs straight out in front of you. Some find that...

    Anything new in headsets?

Consider the connectors. If you are going to be a CFI, you want to connect to the standard jacks. They all work well. I recommend Bose. They fix their stuff and have the best warranty service IMO.

    Mogas

Mogas is not guaranteed to be as consistent or have the same additives as 100LL. 100LL content consistency and quality is more closely controlled. Mogas may work ok in your plane, it depends. Some airport operators actually have a tank on a trailer and go get mogas from a car filling station...

Does anybody perform an inflight, high-power, lean-of-peak mag check

Just because you get an rpm drop when you do a mag check doesnt mean the mags are working properly. One or both can be mistimed and still give an rpm drop.

Gear Up Landing Right in Front of Me

I had an amphib that said "Gear is down for landing on pavement" in a guys voice. And "Gear is up for landing on water" in a woman's voice. And yes, you can turn them off or ignore them. I had a close call, but caught the gear being up for an airport landing on final. Gear up on pavement does...
