Please explain propeller rpm vs. altitude vs. ground speed?

The truth is, when you reduce power, you will see a small rpm drop and then the rpms will try and climb back to where they were. It is least noticeable at high power and most noticeable at lower powers. You often hear the argument that the rpms are dropping because it is "at the stops", but it...

    Favorite lightweight tents

Where the rain comes in is the floor when the tent is in a low spot which turns into a mud puddle. Solution is to put the tent on a high spot, not a low spot.

Please explain propeller rpm vs. altitude vs. ground speed?

It's NOT because the prop is full flat. A pilot can prove that by having the prop knob out a bit when leaning. What I described is what the propeller does. The valve that makes that happen is called the "pilot valve". If that didn't happen, we wouldnt be able to lean via rpm drop. And pilots...

Please explain propeller rpm vs. altitude vs. ground speed?

Its "peak RPM" for that prop knob setting. What you do is this. You climb up, now you level out. You use your throttle to select manifold pressure. You use your prop knob to select your rpm. Now you pull the mixture out and watch the tachometer. You will see a slight rpm drop when it goes "too...

    VG's

VGs on a Husky slow it down 3 or 4 knots. They do make it stall a little slower and give it more elevator authority so you can get the tail down for landing at very slow speeds. They really aren't needed IMO.

    The reason eludes me...

It's not surprising that people mix up words that are similar. That is how human brains work.

Please explain propeller rpm vs. altitude vs. ground speed?

In spite of it being a "constant speed" prop, when you lean the engine, you get an rpm drop. They put a item called a "pilots valve" so the prop rpm goes down, SLIGHTLY, then tries to go back up to where it was. This is so you can lean the engine to "peak RPM".

    Taxiway take off???

It is frequently done when the only runway is being paved. Not sure if a Notam is required or even allowed, but it should be Notamed?

    avgas in Canada

If there is bad weather on your planned route, there is another highway, the Cassiar highway that goes up through Smithers, then Dease Lake, west of the Alcan, and meets the Alcan in Whitehorse. Take a look at that as an alternate. It can work just fine too.

How much downhill do I need?

Right now I'm leaning toward putting the platform on 2 x 4s laid flat so I get 2 1/4" in 96". I could go with putting it on 1 x 2's laid flat which would give me 1 1/2" in 96". That might be enough, don't really know. But, what I need to do if go out and find a place on the ramp where I barely...

Transponder code with an 8 or 9

Hey man, the reason for that is the guy that designed only had 4 fingers on each hand (that's 8 total), and also he numbered the first one zero man, not one so its way cool, counting from 0 just like they do in Unix and C man. Dig? :-)

Heard this one? ATC says to an airliner, "Enter a hold". Captain says "Do you know it costs $1000 to fly once around in a hold?" ATC returns with "Give me $3000 dollars worth"....

How much downhill do I need?

I have a winch to pull my Husky into my hangar. But I have to pull it out (with a yoke I fashioned). I want to build a platform with a ramp going up to it and use the winch to pull it up the ramp. Then it goes to a level platform. Should I put my 3/4" plywood on 1x2s (3/4" high) or 2x4s (1 1/2"...

    When does it click?

Pilots are forever students, and eventually most are instructors (and all instructors are students). Its a gradual process and sometimes you will take a step back. Stick with it, you will get it.
