    low cherokee 140 power

Check for a blocked muffler because it's the path of least cost. If that checks out it's most likely the carburetor -and you can't adjust it! Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft Engines

    0235 Cam

.005" pitting is not likely to grind to legal specs. If ypu dpmn't want to pop for new send it to Romans in Tulsa. They often grind to a slightly smaller diameter than others. You also don't need it certified so if they can grind it slightly lower without the yellow tag. Do install reground if...

    Engine questions

It sounds like some combination of the cylinders, pistons, rings or all of the above are wearing out and it's burning the oil. It sounds like the prop governor is worn out as well. With the time on it topping it is not prudent. Overhaul it or exchange it. The O-470-R is common enough. Poplar...

How about a picture of the "pit"? Assuming the cylinders are first run why not just overhaul them bored to P.015" oversize. A lot cheaper than new. Going back to the begimming how much time is on these engines? Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft Engines

    Replacing a cylinder

If you can have the cylinder repaired for $500 why spend more than double that for a new one. Breakin is no problem. Mineral or 20-50 X/C oil, leave the throttle open and reduce RPM to 2,500 for climb. Run 75 % square as much as practical. Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft Engines

Air Power's "street price" for TSIO-360-RB's is a tad over $49K. New is $10K more. FWIW we get around $35K for overhauls. R & I plus mounts and hoses will add $4K+ a side. Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft Engines

    Seneca V annual - PA-34-220T

You haven't said what the nature of the deficiency is. Visual rust? Oil consumption? Ring blow by? If it's just visual it shouldn't get worse. In fact boring them p.015" oversize starts the cycle over again. Freshly honed steel cylinders are VERY prone to rusting. if you are going to overhaul...

    Seneca V annual - PA-34-220T

I'm with Tom. If it passes the compression tests and isn't burning oil leave them alone. Pulling cylinders that are working just becasue they look bad in a borescope doesn't make sense. Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft Engines

    Installing a 180hp in a warrior?

I have a 1980 Warrior ll with a 180 in it. It had a gross weight increase to 2415 with the 160 engine but installing the 180 did not increase the MGW. We used the Arch/Warrior STC. There is another STC out there but I do not believe it increases the MGW. The conversion is expensive and a real...

    ECI Cylinders Redux

I have 8 "A" Titans on my Twin Comanche. The mandated inspection is a PITA and an overkill. The rate of failure of these cylinders is certainly no worse and probably much better than that of weld repaired overhauled cylinders like we used for many years. The new Titans have been tested to a VERY...

Help? One of my computers has a shortcut to the red board. The other two lost it. I go onto AOPA and click in the lower right to join the forums and it just runs me back to the same page again.Any thoughts? Charlie Melot

    [NA]Need Brit car simulator[NA]

It took me about a day to get the hang of it. Roundabouts and passing on 2 lane roads were Ok the second day. The UK is a great place to drive because the roads are good and drivers are polite. I've driven about 11,000 miles there and seen only one accident. Compare that to the carnage one would...

    Denali Rescue, Alaska Flyer?

I was doing the tourist bit in the park for a couple of the days the search was going on. Sort of put a damper on how great it is there. I was also in the lobby of the hotel when the announcement was made that they were found. a BIG cheer by a LOT of people followed.

    0-300c vs 0-300d

If you have a "C" leave it that way. The right angle starter drive can be expensive to repair. Have a new Skytech starter installed on the "C". It's a better starterand eliminates the antique Delco clutch. Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft Engines

    Fuel injector problem

Check the fitting in the flow divider that connects the injector line. This fitting, the line and the nozzle itself are the only things common only to that cylinder. I've seen deteriorated fittings cause this. Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft Engines

    Turbo Ops -- UGH!

Your engine is essentially a derated 260 so running 75% IS conservative. If you run LOP you get the speed back by increasing the MP. Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft Engines

    Lycoming "geared" engines

I don't remember and Lycoming doesn't list a GSO-435 or a GO-480-A. The GSO-480 is carbureted not fuel injected. The TIGO series was a whole different animal. Considering the limited number of them, I saw too many catastrphic failures of mid time since new engines. Charlie Melot Zephyr Aircraft...
