    Piston slap. It goes away running LOP or on one mag because the flame pattern therefore the piston loading changes. A good noise cancelling headset will help.

    This could also be a front main bearing failure or dislodging the plug at the back of the cavity in the front of the crankshaft but neither would explain where the oil went! I'd send the governor out for a check before I'd pop to replace it. Charlie Melot Zephyr Engines

    Have you verified the gauge? Is the oil pressure low? My Warrior reads that way but the gauge is reading a good 20 degrees high. If the pressure holds mid green with the temperature there don't worry about it. Charlie Melot Zephyr Engines

    The 8 bolt crankshaft flange is wide and thin. The angle of incidence of the prop striking the ground on a taildragger noseover is such that it transmits a great deal of force to the fllange often cracking it. Prop strike inspection is in order. Charlie Melot Zephyr Engines
