    2019 spilling into 2020

I thought 2019 was going to finish strong after passing my commercial written with a 90% but since then, I had 2 weeks of BEAUTIFUL weather but couldn't fly because of work and the holidays. I got to fly one day to the inlaws but the bendix on the starter didn't want to engage to get me home so...

Another rent vs buy for PPL...

You should have no problem getting your private and instrument rating in a $30k airplane depending upon what instruments are installed. (You'll learn what's required in your training.) However, if the radios are bad and you want a solid, IFR capable plane, you could have $20k+ in radios. Talk to...

Another rent vs buy for PPL...

If it were me, I'd do just what you're saying. Buy a small, inexpensive trainer and fly the heck out of it. Nothing like owning your own plane. And don't be afraid of experimentals. A little advice, the first 10 hours of training is hard on planes. Lots of bounced landings. Keep renting for...

    When to start Instrument training?

I think it all depends on you. There's nothing wrong with taking a little break from training but if it were me I'd keep going. Since you're going to need to do some time building, make sure to look at the requirements for a commercial license too. Among other things, it requires "One...

    Lost my favorite instructor :(

I feel your pain. I had a great CFI who passed away in the middle of my IFR training. It took me an additional 6 months to find another instructor to help me finish. Because of the local shortage, I've decided to get my CFI to try and help others like me. The only problem is my current CFI is...

What to do when the weather sucks?

I've been arm chair flying lately. We had a beautiful 2 weeks of clear and light wind but with the holidays and work, I only got up a couple times. This weekend it was all 1/2SM OVC003 M02/M02.

    My $0.02 on King Commercial

I just passed my commercial written (90%) by using the King Commercial Course. This is the first time I've ever used King and have to say I'd endorse it because I did pass the written without a problem. I did notice that several of the questions were different than I'd been practicing but with...

    5 Day Accelerated Commercial Training

My instructor told me to fly with him a couple hours to learn the maneuvers then I can go practice them myself until I feel confident. Then a couple more with him to get the endorsement for a checkride. If you have a CFI close, maybe you don't need the accelerated course???

    complex airplane endorsement

When I got my complex I had to have 10 hours of dual (141 school in 1991). That was way too much in my case. After about 5 hours we were looking for things to do. The biggest thing I got from it was knowing how the landing gear system/lights/ safety drop worked in our Arrow. Not hard, you just...

New article about ADS-B states 88% compliance

That is my exact thought too. And since I don't need one now, I'll wait.

New article about ADS-B states 88% compliance

The ag guy I talked to said he had several customers who either had fields inside B, C or at least under the veil where it's required. We don't have ADS-b out in our Arrow yet. I still keep thinking it will be cheaper a year from now and I very rarely fly in airspace that it's required. I'll...

Does Garmin Pilot or Foreflight Have CDI For RNAV

You can do it in Garmin Pilot but you have to select all of the waypoints. I haven't found a way to load an approach.

Tips / Suggestions on Controlling the Weather

The day of my private check ride there was a 22 knot crosswind 90° to the runway and I had to fly to a different airport to meet the DPE. My CFI said go, you got this. I died in a fiery crash off the end of the runway.... Wait, that's not right.... Nope, all went well and I guess I passed.

Tips / Suggestions on Controlling the Weather

Ahhhhh..... That's one of the 3 W's that screws up flying. Work, women and weather. (No offence to any woman who promotes flying. You ladies are the best!!!) :) I would pray for bad forecasts now, they will definitely change by Saturday. Good luck and have fun!!!!!
