    Commercial maneuvers.

You're right, my bad. I meant 8's on pylons and have changed my original post. Thanks

    Commercial maneuvers.

I'm starting to work on my commercial maneuvers and wondered a couple things. How far apart are your pylons when doing 8's on pylons? I think mine are 1/2 mile. Pretty easy to tell here in Iowa where there's a field line every 1/2 mile. Also, how big of a radius should be used for steep...

First solo XC - with a harrowing finish!

This is the BEST thing that came of your cross country. YOU are pilot in command and YOU decide when, where, and how to fly. If it doesn't feel right, make a change. AVIATE, NAVIGATE, COMMUNICATE! My only suggestion is next time you TELL the controller that you're going around, not ask. ;) I...

    IFR ground before flight time

I agree. If you're just starting the learning, go get King or Sporty's or ??? and actually LEARN what you need to know. You can always go back to Shepard if you have trouble with the test.

    Auctioning airspace

Exactly the same as parks, trails, swimming pools, splash pads, museums, etc. and the list goes on and on. If Joe Public knew how much their government spends on things, they'd be amazed and saddened. That's not even including "economic development" which a lot of times means "how to give public...

    Checkride Peculiarity

When you're head is down looking at a sectional or just as you're finishing a stall or when you have you're head down switching tanks. Basically, whenever you're not ready for it.

Long story short, read everything. Right now I agree with the others, start with what your instructor says. That's what they are going to be teaching you first.

    Withholding aircraft after maintenance

I do the same thing. Sometimes it's nice to live in the middle of nowhere and have everyone trust you.

How to transport a Rans S-6?

Here's how I hauled a Challenger II for 150 miles. Knowing what I know now, I wish I would have flown it. No major damage but I did bend one of the plexiglass doors.

    Help! Alternator issues Cessna 150-B

Not an expert here but I've found that most electrical problems are caused by bad connections and grounds. I do agree this sounds like an over voltage situation though. Probably because of the bad connections and grounds.

    Need some IFR advice

I think what you're feeling is normal, however, it's not going to get any better if you don't do it. Now that I've said that, don't mess with ice. I think you made the right decision to cancel your flight but when the weather get so you can fly in the soup without ice, just go do it. You're...

    Gear problems in Comanche

Glad to hear you walked away without bent metal. I know you've heard it before but never give up. Keep working all the way to the crash. In this case it might have saved you sliding down the runway. Let us know what they find. I always like learning about the outcome.

    11foot8 bridge lives on...

You're absolutely right, I just wish the RR didn't make it so hard to work with them. They seem to go out of their way to make it exceptionally hard and exceptionally expensive to deal with them.

    11foot8 bridge lives on...

The rail roads don't care about local infrastructure at all. The only thing they care about is what they own.

    Eyes Out - Flyin Fun

I know most people I run into while flying are super nice and would do anything for you but the ****oles sure stand out. You did good. He needs to get a clue.

How to transport a Rans S-6?

I vote for flying it if it's airworthy. I would bet even a ferry pilot would be cheaper and better on the plane than hauling it.

How did you get your hours after flight training?

I'm right there with you. About 275 hours and finishing up commercial. Looking forward to CFI and teaching.

The one thing I wish someone told me when I was a student

    CFI's aren't always correct.
