age at solo vs hours to solo

I think I would have survived. But that is speculation. Glad I didn’t have to find out. My primary instructor was one of the finest aviators and CFII I’ve ever known with over 10,000 hours in piston aircraft. There wasn’t a lesson after the first one he didn’t pull the power. What I can...

    Cessna 182 yokes

All procedures performed IAW Cessna service manual for Cessna100 series aircraft. We didn’t bother fooling with putting on that pesky wire stuff they had on them adjuster things up in the wings though. That was gonna be too much trouble and run us late gettin back to catch rasslin on the TV.:D...

    Cessna 182 yokes

Success!!! It took us most of the day but the new (to me) control wheels are installed. Our original plan of loosening the turnbuckles underneath the panel to allow the control tubes to be indexed proved not necessary. As it turned out the way it was rigged I was all the way out of chain on the...

What is dangerous about Colchicine? Not being argumentative, just ignorant.

    Cessna 182 yokes

I found these at Reclaimed Aeroparts in Ontario. He had another set when I purchased these a couple of weeks ago. I like the Avions but the price was more than I wanted to part with. I may wish I had just bit the bullet by the time I’m done with these.

    First aviation headset- choice?

I started out in the ‘90s with Flightcom, then bought some DC 13.4’s when they came out. Loved them. Then a buddy of mine talked me into some Lightspeeds. I flew with them for about 3 years. They were ok but I hated that stupid battery/volume control thing on the cord. I finally jerked the wires...

    Cessna 182 yokes

My first reaction was to drill new holes into the control wheel as well, but the holes would have been too close together and with this being such a critical part. Had they been further apart or spaced evenly I would have probably went that route. After looking at the service manual and...

You are correct Dan. Noted. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    Cessna 182 yokes

Well I think we may have figured out a solution today upon further investigation. I’ll update after next weekend. Regarding the serial number split, mine is right at 100 before the split to the ram’s horn style. Strangely enough a hangar neighbor had another 182 yoke and it was indexed...

Student pilot hazing aka nav log

I agree with those who have opined that manual flight planning, especially during training, is an invaluable skill. A nice by-product of completing the nav log and sectional is it gives you an opportunity to really learn the area. You will capture all those tall towers, rivers, power line...

    Bug removal minor epiphany

I keep Pledge polish on my leading edges and cowling. Immediately after going in the hangar I spray Windex on the leading edge and allow to soak for 30 seconds or so. Bugs come right off. Prist stays on the windscreen also.

    Cessna 182 yokes

I decided to replace the original yokes on my 182 as they are the “closed loop” style with a set of newer ram’s horn style. My plane is ‘65 H model and the yokes I am trying to install are from a ‘68 L model. The issue is the mounting holes in the new yokes are indexed slightly different from...

I guess you do keep on learning..

This ^^ I rebuilt the front strut on my old 172 I used to have after it kept leaking down. It was quite an aggregating job not pinching the O-rings. I figured it was a good time to address some intermittent shimmy problems while I was at it so we checked the shimmy dampener, scissors, etc...

Flying and Not Talking to Anybody

You mean the growing majority that live in Mama's basement until they are 35 and elect politicians like Hillary and Barry because they are gullible enough to think they love them? The problem with your ilk is the only rights you are concerned with are yours. More specifically here, you...

Flying and Not Talking to Anybody

Let me be the 2nd to say "Go **** yourself"!!!! You ever heard of a guy named Greg Boyington? He was a moron who flew around in one of those unsafe kit planes called an RV-3 you think should be stopped. He was also the highest scoring Marine fighter pilot of WWII. They made a little movie...
