    iPad Pro

I have the cellular version of the iPad. Like Aggie Mike said, it really is not that much of a price difference between the two. I do not have the cellular activated and just "hotspot" my phone to my iPad when I need internet connectivity. I have a Stratux feeding my iPad, but if I forget to...

    Nervous about flying

I imagine it is pretty common to have some apprehensions when you first start flying. When I first started many years ago, it was a bit overwhelming since there were so many things to process controlling a plane in three dimensions instead of two like you do with a car, plus the navigation and...

    Aspen discount

I really thought with the Garmin G5 and Dynon glass offerings that the Aspen prices would come down a significant amount to stay competative, especially when you consider how old the hardware technology and lower screen resolution is of the Aspen Evolution. Surely by now they are well beyond...

I see now why lots of planes have old avionics

One mistake I made in my previous post is the GTR225 is COMM only, you said a NAV/COMM, Still, 38K seems crazy expensive. Also, I live in Georgia but got my avionics installed in South Carolina. I didn't have to pay any sales tax since I was out of state. That is quite a savings when your...

I see now why lots of planes have old avionics

I assume you meant a GTN650. That is an absurd quote for a GTN650/GTX345/GTR225 unless you have some other combo than that in mind. That price is almost double what it should be. You need to get some other quotes for comparison. I just updated my radio stack last summer and I doubt the...

    premature identification

I think the intent is to IDENT after you plug in your xponder code. ATC matches the code they gave you to the IDENT on their screen. I see no benefit to IDENT 1200.

    Shuttle Landing Facility

Very neat video! I need to add that to my bucket list. Maybe this spring after Sun-N-Fun I can return home up the coast and work that in.

    Billy Graham, gone west

I think the fact that you never heard of any scandal out of his ministry speaks volumes to me about his character and those that were a part of his ministry. I think he was genuinely a humble man that his priority in life was to share the good news of Jesus. Another thing that impressed me is...

    Got the Blues?

Awesome pictures!!!! Is the third picture a new airplane design for the pilot that doesn't know which side is the right side up? :)

    How Cirrus Builds Airplanes

Ironically I just watched that video a couple of nights ago on YouTube. Pretty impressive. Sure wish I could afford a Cirrus.

    What Upgrades for 2018

I know everyone has their wish list for airplane upgrades. What's on your radar for this year? I would love to get the new Garmin 500 autopilot with G5 but I'm at the mercy of waiting on an STC.

    Windshield Cleaner

I use Novus 1 polish with a clean microfiber towel on mine after each flight. I started with the small spray bottle (see link below) and liked it so much that I ordered the larger refill size. They also have a Novus 2 and 3 that is a bit more abrasive if you need to remove scratches. I only...

Hope you didn't have any VFR plans for today - Southeast US

Yes, you are lucky. You get to be there all the time. It is really beautiful county up there! I love visiting my brother! I also love eating at Pat's Country Kitchen too. :)

Hope you didn't have any VFR plans for today - Southeast US

I hear you. I have one brother near 1A3 and the other near 1A5. Both are great places to go during the summer to beat the heat and humidity.

New To Flight Following - Questions?

One other thing I do is listen to the automated weather so I can tell them which version of the weather I have on initial call. That way they know I have the correct altimeter setting. [desired airport] Approach, this is Bug Smasher N1234W with information Charlie (or whatever the current...

Hope you didn't have any VFR plans for today - Southeast US

Yes, this February weather is brutal in Georgia. I flew down to Jekyll Island, both Friday and yesterday (Tuesday) in severe clear skies and rode my bike around the bike paths in 63 degree weather on Friday and 70 degrees yesterday. :)

    Your Drive Time to Airport?

From my garage to hangar is 20 minutes. There is an airport that is only 10 minutes away but they do not have fuel or hangars. I opted for the extra 10 minutes for a new hangar and fuel. To me it is well worth the extra drive. The fuel price is not bad either, $3.75.
