Antique Transponder went Belly Up, ADS-B?

Lack of ADS-B out after 2020 DOES NOT ground your plane, it DOES restrict the airspace you can legally fly in. Some folks will be affected greatly, some not at all.

Approved ADS-B with anonymous while 1200?

Although many GA folks will need ADS-B out, a sizeable percentage could probably get along just fine without It, but install it anyway because of the bad info floating around on this board and others. I fly all over the Central and Eastern USA and have no trouble avoiding airspace where it...

    RV6A conveerted to a twin

I too marvel at those so willing to try new things with flying machines. Often, it’s as if they consider their own life expendable. There is already more risk in experimental aircraft than I am willing to accept, but to modify an experimental to suit your tastes is really gutsy in my book...

    Does ADS-R show non-transponder aircraft?

If you are ADS-B equipped, turning the transponder to standby may not affect your ADS-B out transmissions, you are likely still transmitting.

Approved ADS-B with anonymous while 1200?

It is my understanding that IFR flight has nothing at all to do with ADS-B equipment. My understanding is that one can fly IFR unrestricted as long as you stay below 10,000 ft and outside of class C and class D airspace. Perhaps someone can post a link to the reg that requires ADS-B for IFR ops.

    Budgeting for avionics

The problem with experimental aircraft is trying to figure out what it is you are “giving up”. Aviation in general and airplanes in particular are a series of compromises. What you gain with experimental is often glaringly obvious, what you give up in return is not. I agree with Murphey, buy...

    Budgeting for avionics

Best advice is to be extremely knowledgeable concerning the difference between WANTS and NEEDS as they pertain to accomplishing your particular mission. Most of the stuff people install in airplanes is stuff they WANT, but convince themselves they NEED. That is an expensive path to follow. A...

Grumman Tiger, good bad and ugly

At first I wasn’t sure if I would like it, I’m used to it at the top of a center stack. However, I soon discovered I like it there within easy reach. It would have been nice to put the GPS there, probably could have avoided the CDI and switch panel. But I don’t think it would have fit there...

Grumman Tiger, good bad and ugly

I have a non WAAS IFR legal GPS. Although the radio stack is on the center right part of the panel, I have a CDI tied to the GPS on the left side. I also have dual Narco Nav radios, one with GPS and they both work great. So a total of 3 CDIs in my plane.

Grumman Tiger, good bad and ugly

    1. Sliding canopy for hot days, makes taxi, climb and cruise comfortable 2. Fold down back seats make an awesome cargo hauler with over 6-1/2 feet of room 3. Comparable in speed to C model Mooney, C182 and faster than an Arrow 4. Fuel burn only 10 gph at 135+ knots cruise 5. Airframe is...

    ADS-B Compliance on the Cheap?

The Skybeacon is a self contained stand alone system. Therefore installation is much simpler, “cleaner” and cheaper as it is not wired to any other avionics system, nor does it require installing an antenna. No holes to cut, no wire to run, no problems with outdated coax or connectors. It uses...

How much airplane can you get for $1,000 monthly budget?

Looks like a great deal BUT, no mention of logbooks, no mention of date of last overhaul, no mention of compressions. Might be a good deal, might not. Need more info and in depth logbook review.

How much airplane can you get for $1,000 monthly budget?

I don't think the AA1 will have the useful load the OP needs. Sounds like a Cherokee 140 is the most likely option. Cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, cheap to fly and has the performance needed.

How much airplane can you get for $1,000 monthly budget?

I have a Grumman Tiger and have owned it about 2-1/2 years. I plan on 10 gph fuel burn at 135 knots true. Insurance is reasonable at $500 per year but I have lots of flight time. I agree with a $1500 annual expense. My useful load is right at 900 lbs and the plane holds just over 300 lbs of...

    KT-76A fuse blowing?

Hard to find a better old school transponder than a KT76A. Plus they are as cheap as dirt on the used market and easily replaced, I’ve seen them in good working condition for $50 to $100. Not to mention they are cheap to repair when compared to modern digital transponders. Check out this...

Bingo fuel tonight in Salt Lake City...

One can always refuse a clearance. I once was flying from Van Nuys to Teterboro in a Lear 35. It was a bit of a stretch for that aircraft but the winds were favorable, the weather on both sides good, and the flight well planned for a maximum range effort with legal reserves. Unfortunately, as...
