What to do; upgrade the plane or the avionics

4 questions: 1. Does your plane have a marker beacon? 2. Can you add a glideslope receiver to your existing Nav? Sometimes you can add a separate glideslope receiver that connects to your existing Nav. Still need the right CDI though, 3. Do you have or can you trade for a CDI with...

What to do; upgrade the plane or the avionics

FAR 61.65 should answer this question. A quick read shows me that you have to demonstrate 3 different kinds of approaches. So if you have just a single Nav/Com you could demonstrate a VOR approach and a Localizer approach. With a very understanding DPE you might get away with a radar approach...

    KADS parking

I agree with AghieMike. I’ve flown my Grumman Tiger into ADS a few times and get the same phenomenal service as I do when flying the company Lear. Well worth the few bucks they charge. Millionair is the best FBO on the field!

    For Sale Transponder

Do you have the tray? Is it a Garmin, King or Narco tray? The Garmin 320A transponders were often sold with a module that adapted the transponder to fit into a King KT76/78 or Narco AT50/150 tray. If you have the King tray and Garmin adapting module, I would be very interested in your...

    ADS B suggestions

Not as limited as most folks think. Depends on where you are based and where you want to go.

    uAvionics SkyBeacon functional?

I’m waiting for the Uavionics tail beacon myself, the zero install is attractive, but more than that, I think that having the ADS-B independant of any other system may offer dispatch advantages over more integrated systems. I don’t care a bit about the power output of the silly thing anyway...

respect those winds and DA - My Oh F&^k moment

Good reason to do a full power static rpm check from time to time. You won’t get book performance if you are not turning book RPM.

Is aircraft mechanic a good career field?

It’s not about the military. It’s about getting top notch training, incredible experience, learning dicipline and work ethics, all while getting paid well to do so. Great benefits while in the service, including travel, medical, dental, retirement savings, and leadership training. More...

Is aircraft mechanic a good career field?

Go into the military and work on turbine aircraft from the first day. Get your A&P while in. Get out of the military and get a job working on turbine aircraft. The money is, where the money is. And the real money in aviation is in turbine aircraft.

Wings of Hope Fall 2018 Raffle airplane announced

First thing to do is have your mechanic thoroughly inspect the airplane and logs. Then accept the aircraft and pay WOH the IRS 25% tax, $12,433.75, and pay sales tax if any. Then fly it home and sell it if desired.

Wings of Hope Fall 2018 Raffle airplane announced

How is the income tax for winning the raffle paid? Does the seller (WOH) collect it or do you pay it when you file with the IRS at tax time? From reading their rules, it sounded like they collect a hefty tax when you pick up the plane. I am interested in knowing how the value of the plane is...

Wings of Hope Fall 2018 Raffle airplane announced

Any chance you can claim a loss on the aircraft and recover the taxes paid as a result of winning the raffle? If you can recover most of the tax and sell the plane for more than the cost of repairs you may come out OK.

Wings of Hope Fall 2018 Raffle airplane announced

I have seen STOL kits installed to conceal damage on aircraft prior to reading this thread. Raffle ticket buyer beware! First clue: Donated airplane Second clue: Missing log books Third clue: STOL kit Fourth Clue: Annual performed “in house”. In hindsight, before accepting an airplane into...

    Easy transponder replacement?

Garmin sold adapters that would allow their 320A to fit in a King or Narco rack. The adapter fit on to the back of the transponder.

    Budgeting for avionics

Ravioli If you are saying experimental aircraft conform to the same requirements as Part 23 aircraft, I think you are very much mistaken. There are loads of additional requirements that Part 23 aircraft must meet and demonstrate to meet, that experimentals do not. As I said, some experimental...

    Budgeting for avionics

Experimentals are not required to conform to the same standards of design, construction, testing, and safety that regulate certified aircraft. Some experimentals may be just as safe and well designed as certified, some not. Hard to tell which is which. There are many reasons why they are...

Antique Transponder went Belly Up, ADS-B?

MBDiagMan: The part about a plane being grounded after 2020 for lack of ADS-B compliance. See post #13. This is not true, you can easily fly from coast to coast without ADS-B after 2020. I’ve been studying this stuff for several years as I not only own a Grumman Tiger, I am responsible for a...

Antique Transponder went Belly Up, ADS-B?

Posting misinformation is not helpful to the discussion. Bad info makes ADS-B even more confusing than it already is. We should try to be as accurate as possible for the benefit of everyone trying to decide what to do.
