    Size matters

Order kiosks are awesome. During recent travels, I passed by a "Golden Arches" location with order kiosks. You enter what you want, don't have to explain it to a "counter person" who probably doesn't give a hoot, and in the process eliminate the potential for the order entry being incorrect...

    New iPad

In the case of Citi, it would be difficult for them to refuse an extended warranty claim on refurbished devices, as they do not stipulate "new items only" nor exclude refurbished devices in their published extended warranty terms. Once devices are manufacturer refurbished, they are no longer...

    New iPad

Manufacturer-refurbished items are none of those, that's why they are refurbished. That document specifically excludes "refurbished" items from price protection, but makes no such exclusion for extended warranty coverage. Indeed, a quick perusal appears to indicate that most credit card...

    New iPad

I see no such language relative to the extended warranty coverage: http://i.info4.citi.com/wpm/100164/PDF/Guide1.pdf I'm just pointing out the weakness of the idea that Apple designs for obsolescence. The reality would seem to indicate otherwise, especially when comparing Apple's record with...

    New iPad

As far as I can tell, for most credit cards (including Citi), manufacturer refurbished devices still qualify for extended warranty coverage as long as they are sold with the standard manufacturer warranty, which is the case with Apple-sourced refurbished devices. For cards where refurbished is...

What is this “fresh scent” Hell?

Believe it or not, that’s most likely an actual product marketed for that exact purpose. Its existence was new to me until I saw it (actually, a couple different models) at a tourist trap novelty store recently. They look eerily similar to repackaged coffee cup warmers. I’m a germophobe, so...

    New iPad

Apple refurbishes their devices to new condition, and provides the same warranty as new, so there I see no risk when purchasing from them. Refurbished devices even qualify for AppleCare. They are essentially new devices which simply cannot be resold as new. Refurbished from other reputable...

    New iPad

Apple online refurbished store. You have to hunt a bit for it. Essentially new condition devices with full Apple warranty. Be wary of refurbished from other sources.

    Tire Pressure in a PA32

While following POH guidance is the legal answer, the practical problem with this approach is that most tubes leak air, so depending on use they may end up under-inflated in short order. I can't speculate on why someone else would recommend it, but it has been recommended to me for that reason...

    Tire Pressure in a PA32

I use a few psi higher in the mains and nose of my Cherokee, mainly because they tend to leak down over time, except for the one with the Airstop tube. At replacement time, all of them will likely receive Airstop tubes.

At some point a parent has just got to let them fail I guess

I assume that Thing 2 is a 20-something, in which case she very well could pull off an all-night drive and impressive first day of work the next day. Add 20+ years, perhaps not so doable.

At some point a parent has just got to let them fail I guess

There is a saying, “if you’re on time, you’re late.” It’s true. If the meeting is at 10am and that’s when everyone shows up (within 30 seconds, assuming everyone’s watches are synchronized), the meeting start is already late. If you travel to meetings for a living and don’t plan to be early...

Flying out to Pittsburgh airport suggestions?

AGC is definitely best bet for downtown. I would recommend Voyager over Corporate Air, but either should take care of you.

Got a pixel 2, swapping to iPhone X tomorrow, change my mind

Every time I need a new phone, I look at the Android options. Never have I been impressed. If you're a "geek" and like to fiddle with nerd knobs, Android is probably better. From the standpoint of security and privacy, there is no contest: Apple wins. Apple's position on privacy alone is...

NA — Moen or Delta Faucet

Plumbers love PEX because it is less labor-intensive to install. Drill some holes, pull it through, terminate it and you're done. The central distribution manifolds that are typically used provide the convenience of controlling the supply to each individual fixture. There should be no joints...

NA — Moen or Delta Faucet

My understanding is that the switch from brass to plastic in potable water plumbing valves was at least in part due to regulation. One of my Kohler 2-handle bathroom fixtures had brass valves, and when they started to leak, they were too corroded to be disassembled. Kohler sent me replacement...

NA — Moen or Delta Faucet

I'm beginning to think that this is the bottom line. Based on my own experience, I've had to replace a Moen cartridge once in 10 years (not a terrible record) on a prior faucet, and since Delta switched to ceramic cartridges I suspect they are better but I have no real experience. However...

NA — Moen or Delta Faucet

Looking for a new kitchen faucet. Style preferences aside, is there much difference between these two brands? Seems like Moen has more market share and a reputation for great customer service, but Delta may use better cartridges. I’ve had a Moen cartridge leak in the past, but Moen quickly...

I want a new app...or iPhone feature...and still hate calls

You might be able to create an Automator action on macOS to do what you want, but not sure if that will work. I just turned off call forwarding to my Mac, so that calls no longer show up there. I use Hiya on the iPhone, which does a decent job of identifying bogus callers, and no need to look...

Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall

Whatever one thinks of Reagan, his Berlin Wall speech and the accompanying foreign policy are significant because they were markers of major changes in world history. Whether you agree with the speech or accompanying policies is irrelevant to their impact. The cause of the collapse of the USSR...
