Piper Aztec vs. C210 vs. Cherokee 6 vs. Lance/Saratoga

Grg Do you find the Redbird ATD accurately models the Aztec's behaviour on one engine? I volunteer at Experience Of Flight where we have the glass cockpit 172 Redbird and about half of the instructors say it accurately models the 172 but the other half say it does not. Several of the...

Piper Aztec vs. C210 vs. Cherokee 6 vs. Lance/Saratoga

Just remembered this from a CPA who divides cost per hour by GS to evaluate airplanes. His method requires good data which is hard to comeby but gives a good starting place. It also ignores considerations such as terrain but here goes a couple of examples using rental aircraft. Round up...

Piper Aztec vs. C210 vs. Cherokee 6 vs. Lance/Saratoga

Hmm good question good answer may be harder. Everyone always says twins will bring you home if one quits. But accident data says the reason most piston GA have two engines is because they don't fly well on just one. Love Aztrucks but if you are not going to invest in training AND proficiency...

Multiple 30 minutes segments above 12,500' prohibited?

James I'd say that passing a medical exam only shows that given the requisite skills, and ability to apply them, passing a medical only means you are fit for flight at that moment. Remember, the FAA says you must ground yourself if you have a condition that renders you unfit. Example pass your...

What is triple mix for INS?

Later, after much exposure to the FAA I understood why they insisted on sticking with the hammer and tong terrestrial RF systems...

What is triple mix for INS?

Thanks for the positive contributions! The question is based upon the DC0-10. My last job at UAL was maintaining the aircrew training material for that fleet. Way back in those pre GPS days the Diesel 10 used 3 INSs for overwater navigation and conventional VOR/DME fore domestic nav...

Rockwell or Aero Commander version of the 172?

Many years ago did Rockwell or Aero Commander make a copy of the 172? Back in high school I remember the state of GA had one or two that used to fly into the airport where I worked as a line boy. The state also had a couple of T-34's they used for forest fire spotting. One of my CFIs flew...

Logging PIC and actual IMC time with insurance restrictions

An FAA inspector once explained it this way. If there is an accident or incident we define the PIC as the pilot who is properly certificated (category, class etc.) and current. A friend got caught up by this when he was asked to just ride around the pattern a few times with pilot X. On the...

What is triple mix for INS?

Can someone explain what is triple mix and how is it done? I know it is used in conjunction with INS systems to discover and minimize error but have not been able to find an explanation of it. Many thanks!

Multiple 30 minutes segments above 12,500' prohibited?

Good catch Ed! Comment should have been directed at Skip Miller. Johnbo my apologies!

Multiple 30 minutes segments above 12,500' prohibited?

We're not cheap, just frugal! Seriously Johnbo your attitude reminds me of the three people who have rear ended me leading to lots of pain and surgeries. I"ll bet at least one of them still will try to say it is ok to drive and text at the same time. All three were talking or texting.

    Enforce logbook entry

To weigh in on this from the witnessing a fist fight, no you don't have to place yourself in danger (breaking up the fight. But like a car accident that you see happen there is a moral stance that you should report the event and be prepared to give testimony.

Would having mental health history cause any problems in being a pilot?

Lots of well meant advice with only a smattering of snark, refreshing. Your smartest and least painful (to self and pocketbook) way to proceed is talk with Dr Chein (sp?) or Fowler and engage their services. Do not go to ANY AME until one of those two guys gives you appropriate guidance. Make...

    “Ground instruction” scenarios

Doc We both have our opinions and are both entitled to express them within reasonable bounds. Yes at times I drift off the exact point but that is not uncommon on here. I try to give food for thought because there is more to being a pilot than being able to manipulate the controls. You fly...
