    Friend died in plane

Oh my I didn’t realize there was a thread already started on this. I didn’t want to start a thread because I didn’t know how the POA community would respond. But after looking at the thread, it seems it has brought us together. Thank you.

    Friend died in plane

I know everyone here is familiar with the helicopter crash that killed nine individuals. However… On Tuesday, January 28th, our local Coroner, Cinda Edwards, and her husband, former Mayor Frank Edwards, died in a plane crash in Springfield, Illinois. Frank was a commercial pilot and a...

    The science of being seen

As a student, this is the place where I feel welcome.

The one thing I wish someone told me when I was a student

Enjoy the journey, not the destination.

    Flight Sim for student

I definitely made the right decision by referring to PoA before purchasing a sim. Thank you everyone for sharing your guidance and giving me your opinions. You guys are great!

    Flight Sim for student

The AOPA studies indicate 80% student pilots quit their training. I refuse to be in that group. Plus, I now have almost 300 hours of drive time, so it doesn’t affect me at all now. :)

    Flight Sim for student

Good idea. Ok. So at this point, I just need to get in the air as much as I can during the weekends when I am not on-call and when the weather is good. Last year, my flight training was awesome. Things were going great; I was flying, learning, and then BAM! progress stalled due to the time...

    Flight Sim for student

Due to the recent time change and the 2 1/2 hour drive to the airport, it would be dark by the time i arrive at the airport. So at this time, I am only able to fly on weekends. And if the weather is bad or I am on-call that weekend, well, I won’t fly. This is why I wanted a sim to keep my skills...

    Flight Sim for student

I saw Sporty’s is selling the Deluxe Saiten flight simulator bundle; which includes rudder, yoke, throttle, and program for approximately 360.00. I have never considered a flight simulator but after I flew yesterday, I knew something had to change. I need to get behind the controls more; and...

    Flight Sim for student

Fellow Pilots, I need your guidance. Many of you know that I drive 2 1/2 hours to the airport for training (5 hour round trip). Secondly, my occupation (Mortician) requires me to be on-call 2 weeks out of each month. What does this mean? My actual flying time is not as productive as it could...

CFI Here - Cross Country Flight Planning Question

I recently completed my XC. I was encouraged to do everything by paper (flight nav, sectional, and used my WizWheel). In retrospect, I am very happy that I did not use any electronics. Now I can use both effectively and efficiently.

My solo cross country is Sunday.

That is a great question Sinistar. What I found interesting was the fact that I would land on 18 at one airport, 36 at the other airport, and then 23 on the other. Not a big deal for some, but I never expected the wind to deviate so much in such a short period of time.

Ok good. I even did every radio call; 10 miles out, 5 miles out, my intentions as I came up to H96, downwind, base, and final. That is how I’ve been taught so that’s how I do it.

I use CloudAHoy. It tracks everything about your flight. I just posted a small sample of what CloudAHoy can show. Here is the same flight with CloudAHoy options.

My solo cross country is Sunday.

I was on a heading of 180 and turned a bit to the right. Then I flew right over the field at 2,000 MSL. While descending to 1,500 MSL , I completed a teardrop entry at a 45 to enter the traffic pattern. Once on downwind, I made the final adjustments for landing on 18. As you can see from the...

Salty, That is exactly how the trip went. I was bounced, pushed, and thrown all around. But I was determined to make the next checkpoint.
