    DFW Airport

I instruct in the DFW area and during night flights there are more PA28s and C172s in the pattern at DFW than turbofan aircraft these days.

    New purchase suggestions!

Piper Arrow 180HP version. Not sure you can pick one up in great condition at 30-40k. I haven’t looked to see what the Covid-adjusted GA airplane prices are though. You may be able to find someone looking to offload one. if you finish your IFR rating, insurance will be much cheaper BTW

    Multi engine slow flight speed

Thanks for the feedback all... I agree, slow flight is a maneuver just above stall speed, not sure why our maneuver checklist states the higher speed. At 90 kts the thing wants to continue climbing anyway.

    Multi engine slow flight speed

I posted this question on another forum but interested in other opinions as well... I wanted to get opinions on the commercial-multi slow flight speed required to perform the slow flight maneuver. Our school's Baron B55 manuevers checklist states that slow flight should be accomplished at...

PPL oral - weak subject areas

Hey folks - I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts are on private pilot oral preparedness and weakness areas. Either as a CFI, examiner, or student - what do you feel the biggest gaps are or "weakness areas" are when it comes to student readiness for the oral exam? Multiple topics if needed...

    Looking for brake hardware opinions...

What's everyone's experience with brake disc hardware/manufacturers? I have to replace discs on a PA28R-200 at next 100HR. Cleveland is the most expensive. Rapco and APS are cheaper but still getting descent reviews. Wanted to see if anyone here had experience to comment on the best path to...

    CFI/CFII, 61 vs. 141

Hey gang - what's everyone's input on whether to tackle CFI/CFII training and certification at a part 61 vs. 141 flight school? I'm aware of the differences between the two, and I'm looking for a recommendation on which route to go. All of my ratings up to this point were learned and obtained...

    Foreflight route advisor

Yes! That is a crazy route. I guess their goal is to show recently "actual flown" routes... not necessarily what you will receive from an "actual clearance" standpoint.

    Foreflight route advisor

Hey folks - After updating to the latest foreflight version (I think 9.3 if I remember), I'm noticing the route advisor is returning some crazy routes for any given flight... unlike prior versions of foreflight. For example, some "ATC-cleared" routes are 100-300 of nm outside of any normal...

    Lopresti mods - replacement parts

Hey folks - I'm posting to see if anyone has had to shop for replacement hardware for their Lopresti Aviation speed mods (they make aerodynamic kits for various airfames, among other stuff). Specifically, I need to replace the handle assembly/shaft for my PA28R cowl flaps. Over time, the...

    IGI/FII, Ground instructor

Hey folks - I'm hoping someone can clarify for me, or help me understand the generally accepted requirements for instrument ground instructor privileges. I've got my FOI, AGI, FIA, FII knowledge tests completed. According to part 61.213, the instrument ground instructor must pass a knowledge...

    Lesson plans - CFI

Hey folks - Do any of you CFIs have experience with the Backseat Pilot pre-authored lesson plans? (www.thebackseatpilot.com). If so, thoughts/opinions/reviews? I am starting CFI training soon...I am likely going to use a pre-made syllabus or lesson plans, and modify as I go to fit my needs...

    CFI paths

Thanks for all the responses. My intentions are to teach for awhile, I may fly for a living beyond that in the future, but I work full time doing something else for the time being. I think I am leaning on doing CFI single engine first, then multi- later. The CFIs at the local flight school...

    CFI paths

Hey folks, so my goal this year is obtain my CFI and CFII. Initially I wasn't going to tackle multi-engine this year, but the opportunity has presented itself. I started few months back, and have the writtens finished thus far. I now have a question regarding the various 'regulatory' paths to...

    Separate engine/airframe logs

Awesome, thanks for all the input everyone. In speaking with the current owners, they were initially concerned about re-sale value due to this when they purchased the plane. (Of course I am equally concerned. I know there are all kinds of opinions on that). The U.S. logs after import to the...

    Separate engine/airframe logs

So I'm looking at an aircraft that spent its early years in South America (Venezuela I believe). From 1980-1994, all aircraft maintenance is recorded in one single log book (engine, prop, and airframe). In fact, the more interesting item is, every flight is recorded in this log as well...

    (very) short term insurance

We did request a quote from the club's insurance. Everything I'm finding is a 10% cancellation fee (including the club's insurance company, because we'd essentially be canceling a policy). Seems pretty typical. The club is RFC Dallas, KADS.

    (very) short term insurance

I will own the aircraft during the time from delivery, through the ferry flight, and until the lease paperwork is signed between me and the club (within days/weeks of the delivery).
