    Dallas Fort Worth

Yep have flown into DFW and stayed on the GA ramp. Was $85 facility fee for single engine (last year). Be prepared to keep your speed up on final. And depending on day/time there could be a flow-control ops in place. So check that out before. Other than that it’s super easy and the...

    Plane financing

We worked with Dorr Aviation Credit Corp on our last aircraft purchase in July. Between airplane and real estate transactions, it was one of the smoothest Processes I’ve been a part of. Ask for Pat, he was great. https://www.dorraviation.com/

    IFR Departure, “turn heading XYZ”

Attached is a Text response from a tower controller at my local airport when I asked him for his input (not the airport in question). I spoke to him on the phone as well and his advice was essentially 1) tower controller needs to ensure the entire pattern in direction of turn is clear, and 2)...

    IFR Departure, “turn heading XYZ”

@Sluggo63 clearance was “on departure, left turn heading 330 vectors MRRIC1 departure”. Departure airport was KSDL runway 3.

    IFR Departure, “turn heading XYZ”

Thanks for all the replies, definitely good things to think about. I am pretty convinced I didn't break any regulation but 48 hours or so of pondering makes me realize I probably could have waited a bit longer to turn. There was some traffic pattern aircraft, although no immediate...

    IFR Departure, “turn heading XYZ”

Hey gang - I recently had a controller jump on me for turning too early on an IFR takeoff, and I’m trying to research the right answer. Clearance was, “ On departure, turn heading 330, radar vectors to XYZ.” WX was clear VMC. After reaching a stabilized climb and and when I felt safe, I...

C177 RG vs C182 for high altitude

@Sinistar what kind of TAS were you guys seeing up at those altitudes?

C177 RG vs C182 for high altitude

That's not a good outcome. We'd be 2 pax, 2-day duffle bags... somewhere around 2500 lbs or so (2,800 max gross).

C177 RG vs C182 for high altitude

Thanks for the votes so far guys. BTW not an ownership/purchase question. I have access to both planes (flying club), trying to pick which one to fly out there.

C177 RG vs C182 for high altitude

Hey folks - I'm looking for some experienced opinions on aircraft choice for a trip out west. 1975 Cessna 177 RG, OR, a 1975 Cessna 182P. Rough itinerary will be FTW-PHX-SMO-SLC-FTW. Highest planned cruise altitude will be 12,000. The POH for both aircraft would suggest very similar...

Flight Review: “New things in Aviation” ideas

Hey team - I have recently conducted a few flight reviews (formerly BFRs) with very, very experienced pilots. Although we cover what is required by regulation during the ground portion, I find that it is not extremely productive for the client pilot. So I'd like to start incorporating some...

    Planning IFR XC route

You would probably get something along V252 or similar. Airways routing is never perfect, you tend to only be on an official airway for portions of the enroute phase. Getting to and from that enroute phase is always a toss up. Sometimes your clearance requires navigation to a fix initially...

TEC Route over Quiet LAX (Full ATC)

I used to live in Socal based at EMT. I thought the TEC system was genius. Very easy to get around. Now I live in the DFW area and I think people would benefit from having that out here as well. Not as many terminal areas as southern CA but still there’s a a lot of pilots that like to hop...

    Shipping tax - engine overhaul

Thanks for that tip. So in our case the shipping is baked into the quote for the engine overhaul. They offer free shipping to and from their shop. So there isn’t a shipping/handling line item to levy a sales tax on.

    Shipping tax - engine overhaul

Hey folks - my partner and I are about to send our Lycoming io360 engine off to Penn Yan for an overhaul later this month. My partner brought to my attention state shipping/receiving taxes on engine sales... i am looking for some guidance on this from anyone who has experience. We are...

Is 2.9 HR Hobbs time normal for 1 hr & 36 min of real-time flight time?

I’ve had Hobbs issues before. Sometimes the transducer that converts oil pressure to an electric current can go wacky. If it’s the oil pressure type. I wouldn’t hesitate to send them the ADS-B data and dispute it. Seems logical.
