Solo own a 182 vs. 1/4 Partnership in a Cirrus?

I’ve been in both a large “club” partnership (5-6 members) and a small one (2 of us). It’s pretty much a linear relationship between cost vs aircraft availability. The large partnerships you just have to get some rules regarding scheduling etc. It’s great to have more people to split the...

Interested to hear back from the OP what he paid for hard surface parking. If willing to share

    7-4 Bonanza down near Aspen

Safe option: do a performance calculation that guarantee with some safety factor that you will clear whatever terrain you plan on flying. Safer option: Climb above the intended terrain over the airport/town/valley, until you are above the pass altitude by some safety factor… then hit the...

Navy helicopter crash Inyo CA 7/17/21

Glad everyone made it out alive. We used to see Blackhawks rescuing folks a lot when we used to live out there, hiking Mt Whitney every season. Those hills are not for the amateur hiker.

C150 flipped in storm - KFFZ, Falcon Field, 15-July 2021

We had our plane liberate from its tie down during a “small” tornado that went thru dallas. Minor damage compared to this but a good example of paying attention to the taught-ness of your tie down.

    "minor" prop strike question

Check to be sure the shop is using the correct orifice size tester…. We had a buyer perform a prebuy inspection on our aircraft and the mechanic used an out of spec/size test device. The result was cylinder compression readings lower than prior tests. The engine manufacture will have a service...

    "minor" prop strike question

what did the prop strike? Sometimes these require engine tear down to inspect the crank and internals. This would show in the engine log.

    Fog

Yeah, especially fog layers…. They can be very thin sometimes…. Love that view when you takeoff in a fog layer and pop out right above it. Sometimes buildings and skyscrapers are penetrating the fog layer. Pretty neat.

    Fog

Not that another reply is necessary, a lot of good accurate info above. But also keep in mind the fact that air mass over land can change (ie heat up) more quickly than the air mass over a body of water. This warmer, moist air will mix with the cooler air near the coast, dropping closer to the...

Cessna 414 down in Yorba Linda

He had two prior FAA violations according to the report. One for flight into IMC without ratings/clearance…. I guess the certificate suspension wasn’t enough consequence. Devastating for the innocent folks killed on the ground.

    Getting CFI without formal course

I did mine more or less informally at a local flight school. Regardless of which approach to take, it’s a very comprehensive process and rating. I leaned heavily on ‘Backseat Pilot’ material (https://thebackseatpilot.com/). Although they provide lesson plan formats, the material is very...

So Cal GPS Notam - Major Outages (Potential)

It’s funny, seems like every time I fly thru one of these GPS unreliable regions, I never experience any issues whatsoever. Always prepared for it but never run into it. Typically in and around the Louisiana area when they are published.

    Non-aviation ANR headphones

I’m reading online that the xm4 isn’t really that much of an upgrade over the xm3. It’s got a few more bells/whistles. Plus Best Buy down the street has xm3’s in stock at a small discount. I’m gonna go check them out later today. Thanks for all the input guys!

    What happened to WeatherSpork?

First time I used EZWxbrief, it seemed like it was still in beta mode (maybe it is). Not very intuitive to navigate at all. I’m sure if it was the only product/app of its kind and i spent several hours on it, it would get more intuitive. But while there is WeatherSpork and other apps still...

    Non-aviation ANR headphones

Hey gang - Since most of us likely use some form of noise-canceling headsets for flying, I wanted to pulse the group on what the favorite noise-canceling, non-aviation headphones are for everyone? I.e. non-aviation, no voice, just listening to music type. I am going to make an investment in a...
