I’m looking to buy steel angles in the St Louis MO area. If you know of one, please advise. The shipping cost for raw material was too much. …trying to build my own metal brake. Thanks !

    Poplar Grove Airmotive

If you recently had your engine overhauled at Poplar Grove Airmotive, what was the turn around time? 4 months, 5 months, 6 months or longer?

No one answered my question of how do I know if the material has ‘work hardened’…

    Aluminum Rib - Work Hardening?

I’m using .025 thk 2024T4 and am hammering away in making the wing ribs over wood form blocks for my plans built project… How do I know or determine if I’ve hit the aluminum material too much that it’s ‘work hardened’?

Does the wing spar caps come assembled when delivered in the standard kit? I know for the quick build, the wing spars and tanks are already done. Thanks!

    Wing Spar Rivet Squeeze

Howdy! I was thinking of an inexpensive way to squeeze big (3/16th inch dia) rivets. Like the type holding a wing spar cap together. Would using the right rivet sets in between a hydraulic press be a workable method? Ideally, the right tool is to use a deep wide head on a pneumatic squeeze…but...

    RV6 Prop and Spinner Bulkhead?

I removed my fixed pitch metal prop on my RV6 for an engine overhaul. After removal, I realized that the prop spacer is not firmly ‘bonded’ due to time/corrosion to the spinner’s bulkhead and the prop is also firmly attach to the same spinner bulkhead. (The bulkhead has a part number of...

    6+ Months Down Time?

My airplane will be down for maintenance… Is six months too long of time to be away from ‘stick time’? Should I consider some dual time just in case I’m a bit rusty after so many months? Your thoughts and recommendations are appreciated. thanks!

    Oil Temp less than 160F

Here’s an update on my troubleshooting. I verified using boiling water, and the sensor/gauge indicated 180F. I’ve now removed the Vernatherm. I placed the Vernatherm in boiling water and it extended a quarter of an inch; 0.25”. Now I’m a bit puzzled. Everything seems to check out functionally...

    Oil Temp less than 160F

Today's OAT is not low for my area; Southern Illinois... We've had lower earlier in the season; high 20's F. When I notice this , I turned around the landed back at my home airport. I then completed blocked off the face of the oil cooler. I put the cowling back on, and went back up for another...

    Oil Temp less than 160F

I have an O320 in my RV, swinging a fixed pitch prop… The OAT today was 34 F degrees. I have the face of my oil cooler blocked off and my oil temp is usually in 170 to 180F range. However, today it just hovered between 150 to 160. I thought maybe it was the temp gage, but when I throttle down...

RV Horizontal Stab Rear Spar SB…

In my day job as a liaison engineer - working at a 'large' airplane factory, we make that decision to get the production going and not be hindered by 'science experiments' and calculated theories. I agree with you though, the over kill and dwelling on the wasteful tasks will keep a builder from...

RV Horizontal Stab Rear Spar SB…

Since I started this post, just one more point if I may... The RVs are the most prolific EAB of all time. As such, the basic skill - the craftsmanship is 'so' overlooked that the focus is on the multi-screen color displays in the cockpit. When I read further into a builder's completion story...

RV Horizontal Stab Rear Spar SB…

I’ve been reading some comments on the VAF forum and there’s an RV4 with 2000 plus hours in competition aerobatics. He found no cracks! I still say it’s partly craftsmanship including many other factors. I don’t plan to order the repair kit from Vans and unzip my HS anytime soon.
