    Depreciation on a 182

So I'm beginning to narrow down my search of a first airplane, and for more reasons than I care to list, I'm gravitating towards a 182. I'm really liking the 2004+ model years which came with the G1000. I've trained for my PPL and IFR on the G1000 platform and just prefer the way it integrates...

Opinions on the JMB VL-3 915

I happened to have come across the VL-3 (experimental) made by JBM aircraft in Czech Republic. They’re now offering this aircraft with the Rotax 915. https://www.jmbaircraft.com/ It’s a 2-seater, retractable (option), with a ballistic parachute, and can be ordered with WAAS-IFR and autopilot...

thank you for that useful information and the frequency. Beautiful picture!

    Who's buying planes.

My assumption is - thousands of furloughed airline pilots need something to keep themselves flying. Surely, their salaries may not allow the outright purchase of new single engine pistons, but used ones... Who knows?

    Flying into White Mountains, NH

Father in law asked about going on a scenic flight around the White Mountains in NH. I know that Mt. Washington is one of the windiest places in the US, so I wanted to know general impressions of flying into and around the area in a 172. I do not have mountain training which is why I ask...

    Alternatives to expensive charters

I just think that one-size-fits all approach for 135 operator should be revisited. Operators that limit themselves to 5 passengers/plane or less should have less red tape keeping them from operating.

    Alternatives to expensive charters

Aboslutely. When most people think private charter, they think turboprop, private jet. In those instances, planes like that can rarely (if ever) be rented by an outside pilot who's not affiliated with the company. But it should be fairly straightforward to rent a Skylane/Bonanza/Cirrus, and...

    Alternatives to expensive charters

I'm trying to get my brother-in-law a way to hop from Denver to Telluride, but - naturally - the only option are expensive Air Carrier charters that run turboprop and jet services in the $5k price range for a relatively short flight. So, just kind of thinking out-of-the-box here. Any and every...

    Attorney for an aircraft purchase?

Ah, just as I thought. Attorneys will always find a reason to justify their services. I just sold my car for just as much. Bill of sale and cash seems to do the trick. Perhaps a A&P to look over the records, the plane, and make sure nothing throws a red flag. That's about all I can think...

    Attorney for an aircraft purchase?

Happy September to everyone. I am looking to acquire a used 152 in the 30-40k price range. I've gotten a few quotes from aviation attorneys ranging from $3-$5k for writing and negotiating the purchase agreement. For a minute I was happy that GA aircraft purchases are not subject so state...

Want To Buy Fractional Ownership/Partnership in HPN

I'm looking for fractional ownership/partnership based out of Westchester County, NY - KHPN. Single engine fixed gear preferred. If anyone has any tips, suggestions, or knows anyone who owns an aircraft based out of HPN and is looking to share expenses, I'd be interested in talking. There is...

Waiting 6 weeks for my PPL Checkride

Is it normal to have to wait this long? The DPE seems like a busy pilot (executive jet), with checkrides on the side (no shortage of those it seems). My school likes to work with him, but he's difficult to get in touch with. It takes us a week to get in touch with him, and another week to set...

What's a good resource for finding pilots to rent to/share?

Undecided. Either HPN or 4N1. 4N1 would be a cheaper option for parking but it's a windy airport (I'm training there). HPN generally sees better conditions throughout the year and offers large runways, though it's a class D airport with scheduled commercial traffic and a busy flight school.

What's a good resource for finding pilots to rent to/share?

I'm interesting in acquiring a used C-162 (or a similar 2-seater) for affordable time building. With a home-based business and four children, I probably won't get to fly it more than 2-3 times a month. With all that tarmac time, it would only be reasonable to rent the aircraft to 2 additional...

Skylane vs SR-20, reliability & maintenance

Hi all, I am looking to acquire an aircraft to own, and potentially share with 2 other pilots at a local airport. The budget is $150k for a 4-seater single engine piston. I really enjoy flying high-wing aircraft for unobstructed view of terrain. Skylane has great weight capacity, short field...

Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash

He seems more intelligent than the average witness with some background in aviation based on his phraseology. No need for you to be a smart a$$. His recount seems relevant to the discussion.

Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash

Looks like an engineer provides a detailed description of what happened just before crash. He describes the helicopter hovering inside cloud cover, possibly looking for visual/nav reference just prior to hitting the terrain:

Ah, thanks for that explanation. Student pilot here. Still learning. Always learning.

Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash

Am I wrong in assuming that Flight Following is an ATC service provided largely for aircraft separation, not to avoid CFIT? Is ATC during Flight Following responsible for alerting the pilot that they're too low while en route?? I don't think so. Don't know much about the helicopter in...

Skycatcher - Good as first aircraft for raking up hours?

Truthfully, that's part of what appeals to me about it. I can probably find a really good deal on a Skycatcher ($50k) with less than 1000 hours, and they all have glass cockpits. Finding a used C172 for $50k will only yield me a 1960s model with 13,000 hours on the tach. I understand the 162...
