Anyone every fly into KATL in their aircraft?

Really? The guy is working across the street. Who said anything about pretending to have a big ****. ATC isn’t going to let a little guy F up all the airline traffic. As far as I know it’s still a public use airport. If he is ok paying the fees then I see no reason for him not to choose the...

GPS database out of date.. are you slant Golf?

So I went though a little exercise and put in some waypoints to verify between the Garmin Trainer and Foreflight. I determined that the easiest way really is to just compare the lat/lon as it is displayed when you are inputting waypoints. For reference my route was ILIKE PLOTS MERCA...

GPS database out of date.. are you slant Golf?

Good catch. I now see that I did link a non-WAAS supplement. Doesn’t your screenshot state the same thing, that approaches are prohibited unless the flight crew verifies and uses the CURRENT database.

GPS database out of date.. are you slant Golf?

That seems very logical, is there a reference for that? https://static.garmin.com/pumac/GNS430_AircraftFlightManualSupplement.pdf The linked sample supplement states on page 6 that the database has to be the current cycle.

GPS database out of date.. are you slant Golf?

Agreed, all the 430/530w supplements I have seen stated you need a current database for gps approaches. I thought I heard that changed recently but I have not seen anything official on it.

Anyone every fly into KATL in their aircraft?

I’ve thought that if I wanted to visit the delta museum or the Porsche experience that ATL would be a much more convienent option than PDK/FTY.

GPS database out of date.. are you slant Golf?

Do you have anything to prove that flying when there is a rainbow in the sky is legal? The legal requirement is to verify the waypoints. Based on what I have seen discussed is there is not a requirement to document a specific method being used. When the FAA has a requirement to use a...

FYI it looks like they do move waypoints! You learn something new everyday. https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/does-the-faa-move-navigation-waypoints.120471/#post-2771154

Wow really? Prove to me this is illegal.

Where did I say that would satisfy the examiner? I was responding to the question in reality what would you do. The safest thing to do on a checkride is to err on the side of caution. Obviously no examiner could fault you if you said you would NOT be comfortable with that and you either get...

Does The FAA Move Navigation Waypoints?

I asked this question in the below thread but wanted to draw more attention to my specific question. https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/gps-database-out-of-date-are-you-slant-golf.120466/#post-2771092 In discussing “verifying waypoints” with an expired database the question came up.

GPS database out of date.. are you slant Golf?

My enroute routings typically involve VORs and airways which I am confident in saying do not move. For an approach you can look at the date on the plate. If the date is 3 years old all the waypoint names/locations are still valid. I have seen a 1 or 2 degree variation before but my distances...

GPS database out of date.. are you slant Golf?

TLAR.... The easiest way would be to compare the foreflight nav log to the 430 flight plan. If the distances and bearings between the points match then the waypoints haven’t moved. Also has anyone ever heard of the FAA or ATC MOVING a waypoint? I know they could change an arrival or...

GPS database out of date.. are you slant Golf?

I’d still file /G and back it up with the updated database on Foreflight. I could check the nav log to make sure it checked with the 430 flightplan.

Can we get a "crash" forum?

Seems a little too restrictive to the cirrus crowd. How about “Bent Metal and Pulled Parachutes”?

Cirrus Caps Deployment Plane Crash and Rescue from the Quebec Wilderness

Pretty cool. That looks like a place I wouldn’t want to lose an engine in the 172/182’s I fly. I doubt I’ll ever be able to afford one but I do have a bit of jealousy of CAPS when I’m flying over the mountains at night.

    GA parking at KTYS?

No tie downs that are available without going through Tac Air. I messaged a friend that recently overnighted there and he said he was charged $22 and did not take on any fuel in a 172. I believe the fee is lower if you do take fuel. KDKX is a good option if the runway is long enough but the...

Inn n Out bumped from #3

I was really disappointed the first time I went to In and Out. I was expecting a burger on par with Five Guys but soon realized that they are in the same class as McDonalds, Burger King, and Wendy’s. I’d take Chick-fil-A over In and Out any day. I just wish they’d bring back the spicy chicken...

The truth of being maried w/ kids exposed....

If I wanted someone to take care of me when I was older I would have NOT had kids and saved all that money to pay for some good care when I get old. I’ve got a 4 year old daughter and twin 1.5 year old boys. The original plan was for 2 kids total but we got surprised with twins! I’ve really...
