I was just looking at skyvector, and the whole d@*! country is VFR right now. If I owned my own airplane I'd throw a dart at the map from all the way across the room and roll out. Guess I'll go be poor somewhere else :( Still fun to daydream though :D

Now that I don't fly for a living anymore, I really miss having DME. I also don't own my own plane, so I have no idea how much it would cost to have it installed, so I dunno if it would be worth it, especially with a lot of VOR approaches going away, but I sure did like using it.

I'm using a Galaxy Tab A with avare also and it is great, I'm just looking for another option. I'm kind of in the "two is one, one is none" mindset when it comes to some things I guess.

I understand the iPad is so popular for good reason. I'll have to look more into the sentry adsb and the GDLs you mentioned to find out what those even are. If my limited understanding of this stuff is correct, those are devices to get ADS B in, so I can see traffic and weather?

I understand that a lot of people use tablets and ipads primarily, it just seems scary to me. Maybe as I use my tablet more I will have more confidence in it, but I'll probably always be wondering not if but when the darn thing is going to freeze up or something. I would just like to have one...

That's right, I read on the chart what I expected to hear, then I heard it (well, 2/3 of it). In this case the 4 letters of "test" happened to be the same dashes and dots as the last 2 letters I expected to hear. That's the big coincidence I was alluding to. If it wasn't a nice clear VFR day...
