Buying an airplane out of annual?

:dunno: Many years ago, my first plane, I never did get insurance. I was young, a little reckless, and with almost no assets (other than my plane that I paid for with cash).

    Skybeacon issue

Keep playing with the threshold. I had to adjust mine down a few times. Now it works with my Narco AT-50 just fine.

I don't really know what I was expecting

SNL? Been dead for years. Should be SND.

    Squawk Codes??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a transponder only needed in certain airspace?

    The Aeronauts. Amazon prime flick

I did: We have a large screen TV w/surround sound system in our family room. It is probably the loudest movie I've ever watched, yet it is about the quietest form of flight there is. I had to turn the volume up to hear voices, yet the sound effects were RIDICULOUS!

I had heard of it but never actually heard it... "Meow"

I've been flying for 25 years, and I've never heard that, until, TODAY! I must have heard it 10 times on 121.5 today. Maybe your post, and your attempt to curtail this, has started something / had the opposite effect.

    ForeFlight updated this morning and...

Great Lakes region. I found for short term (like TAF range) they were fine, but beyond that they were horribly inaccurate. Like I said before I used them, but now that they’re gone I don’t think I’ll miss them.

28 Days Between Bong and Throttle

Remember when drunk driving threshold was .10%, then the feds pushed states (by holding back road funds) to reduce the threshold to .08%? They kept saying it was to reduce accidents, how .10% was too high for safe driving, blah blah blah. The “coincidence” of that move was the new SFST...

    ForeFlight updated this morning and...

Although I used the long range ceiling/visibility forecasts, it was a love/hate relationship. I found they were constantly, majorly, wrong.

    Tank Top Propane Heaters

I'm not advocating YOU using it against instructions, but I use one in my hangar all the time, as well as in a large party tent at deer camp.

    Complacency

You identified the problem, now correct it. It sounds simple because it is. And you're not alone. I've owned my own plane for awhile now, and there was a point where my pre-flights were getting a bit lax. I mean, its my plane, and I know I put it away in the locked hangar in flyable...

Why can't we find these fast Uber drivers? Every Uber we take I look out the back window, "Honey, is that glacier getting closer to us?"

Night IFR, a whole new ballgame

Yes! I have tritanopia (blues vs greens are hardest for me). I have failed the color blindness test at every third-class medical I’ve ever had for 25 years. 3 or 4 different doctors all have just shrugged and moved on when I’ve failed (on the test I always miss the same two “diagrams” and the...

Looking for an A&P to provide assistance in an engine related lawsuit

I'm gonna assume this: https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/hypothetically-speaking-how-long-until.118452/ Also, from the question in the post, I'm gonna assume it was in there awhile.

Night IFR, a whole new ballgame

Yes, I actually have quite a bit / more than most. I have about 1000 hours total, with 300 at night.

New article about ADS-B states 88% compliance

You're right. I should have said, "I get the feeling they are talking about business aircraft, not personal." Which, they are.

Sure. But when the OP starts saying cattle are bothered by it, I'm calling BS.

    Question about military Visual Routes

My parents have lived there for 19 years. During the summer, the f-16s and a-10s are multiple times per day. No bitching from them. They will call excited, "The two over the house today made the trees whip!" They and their neighbors truly love it. My mom sometimes sits on her back deck...

    Question about military Visual Routes

My parents live directly under VR 1644, and they LOVE IT (they are not pilots). Their neighbors LOVE IT (As far as I know, they are also not pilots). I am a pilot, and I LOVE visiting when the route is active: 'Murica! Personally I highly doubt "Pat Mason" is a pilot.

    Reasonable IR checkride question?

I got a couple of tough questions on mine, but the difference was, I didn't get failed on them for not knowing them right off the bat. Could be the DPE is "dickish", could be your buddy is trying to save face for not knowing something he should have known, and is emphasizing these questions.
