Problems using a cellular modem to send faxes

I work for the federal government, and even we don't use fax anymore. We still have one, collecting dust.

    Rented/borrowed car insurance claims

I'm in the process of shopping insurance. I received a very reasonable quote from Progressive, and I was about to switch. Then my truck got bumped in a parking lot, by a driver with Progressive. After dealing with the adjuster for the past month, I will NOT be switching to Progressive (my...

Cross Country Help - Florida to California

I'll keep future watch, but last summer I found several that were very outdated with bad info. If I have a chance later I will go through my log and see if it refreshes my memory as to which airports.

    ADSB install in Pennsylvania

Mine was 15 minutes, my mechanic charged me $150 total. But thanks for wishing me luck.

    All Time Favorite Approach?

My most memorable was the day after I got my instrument rating, I launched on an 800 mile trip to the east coast in mostly IFR conditions. Above a solid overcast, I decided to use the IFR 18 approach into LEB (Lebanon NH) to get gas. LEB was reporting 700 feet, and my "flatlander brain" was...

    Quick fuel stop question.

And can anyone tell me what the point of entering my N number is? I actually enter a fake/nonexistent number every time only because it feels “big brother”-ish.

    IFR currency

I’ve got an approach near me, that includes a hold at the somewhat-low IAF (2300 AGL). Being somewhat low, on an IFR day it is nearly always in the soup. Every time I fly it I’m asked if I want to fly the full approach with hold. And at least once every six months I do. It’s been perfect for...

Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash

I would also add: show the "other side" of every event, no matter how ridiculous the "other side" is. You can be watching a news report about NASA, and then for the "other side" they interview a flat earth idiot.

Piper Aerostar down near springfield, IL

Now that I listened again, I think it is the "sound of the crash, before the crash". What I mean by that is, I have a similar camera system at my house, and although it records great video, the audio is horrible: the audio skips, replays and repeats, and often is ahead or behind the video. I...

Piper Aerostar down near springfield, IL

I'm hearing a weird sound on that video before the plane hits the ground. Originally I thought they may have been hitting a tree or power lines, but I looked on street view, and they were over a large field (with no tall trees nor power lines) right before hitting the ground. What would cause...

Flying your own plane to work

I did it for years. But, I also had my own airfield/hangar at my home at the time. I currently own acreage, but this acreage isn't really suitable for an airstrip. I've considered a 'copter for that reason, but helicopters don't inspire me like airplanes.

    What are your “outs”

I took this picture last winter. Raining (mist) at ground level, while I was on a climb through 7000 feet I see this (so it was time for a descent):

Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash

I don't even know what you're trying to argue anymore. They say in the video that the helicopter crashed at 1085 feet. You do realize the hills around the crash, ahead in the direction they were pointed, rise to 1600+ very quickly, right? And they also say they were descending at 2000 fpm...

    I just had to know - can I fly a Boeing 737?

Nice video @Martin Pauly ! Looks like fun. For me, it doesn't look like $425 worth of fun, but maybe if it was $125.

Try looking at more than one picture. Like this one, for example: Does this look like 20 or 30 feet to you?

Oil Change by A&P vs Owner

That is a mess. But, it also shows the weakest point of a o-320 (circled in red). I don't think I've ever seen one that wasn't broke.

Oil Change by A&P vs Owner

I do all my own oil changes. The last plane I sold, as I got an offer, was nearing time to do an oil change. The guy was doing his own "pre-buy", and I told him I was changing the oil on Saturday, and he could do his pre-buy at the same time. I changed the oil and cut the filter in front of...

Kobe Bryant dead in helicopter crash

I can't see where it might indicate how long after the crash these pictures were taken (but it was still very much on fire). Certainly the crash sight was beneath the cloud deck at the time.
