I got the "small airplanes are so dangerous talk today"...

I've had this talk before. This is how I handled it: AP: How can you fly in a small airplane? It is so dangerous. Me: Yes it is. Mind if I ask you a question: How do you see yourself dying? AP: Well I'd like to die like my grandpa, in his sleep. Me: That doesn't answer the question...

    Bogus ADSB tracked landing fees

Business opportunity! Actually, I see two business opportunities: one as described above, another as a company that helps airports collect airport landing fees! LOL And additionally, this makes me also think of a fraud opportunity. A guy could just use flightaware to watch aircraft land at...

What to do with 998 1/8" chrome steel bearing balls.

Many, many years ago, I worked my way through college as a machinist at a small job shop that made automotive manufacturing screw feeders. We received a job to make feeders for small rubber ball bearings. The rubber ball bearings came in two sizes, one about 3/8", and one about 1/4". To help...

Getting my Private Pilot Certificate in a Luscombe.

I like your instructor, as it sounds like you're learning fast, all the while, he's pushing you. For that first takeoff, it would be easy to wait out a plane in the pattern, and some here might be critical that he didn't have you wait, but seems to me that: a) he knows your limitations, and b)...

Turning into the wind for runup

I read a study once that said the prop produces almost 0, nil, nothing, in regards to cooling air at run-up. And, the best cooling is obtained by pointing either directly at the wind, or directly away.

Getting my Private Pilot Certificate in a Luscombe.

Oh, and I should add that I got my tailwheel endorsement AFTER I got my PPL, and I remember thinking that at first it seemed IMPOSSIBLE, or like the instructor was using magic, to keep the plane straight. So by getting it done with the PPL; think how much farther along your landing/ground game...

Getting my Private Pilot Certificate in a Luscombe.

Way to go @birdus ! I'm enjoying reading about your lessons, and its bringing back memories! I personally like the "no syllabus" type of training (as it was how I was trained, both PPL and IR) and I got my PPL and IR in the absolute minimum hours, so I don't think it is a disadvantage if it is...

Aviation Related: Welcome to Washington, Bill Clinton

I must be flying to the wrong airports, as I have never once met anyone famous while flying. Wait, considering that I don’t give a crap about famous people, I must actually be flying to the RIGHT airports!

    Instrument Checkride?

I really think #1 helped make mine “a piece of cake”. I read, or maybe watched a video online, that suggested printing out your normal weather sources (prog charts, tafs, etc) the morning of the ride, and bring them with you in a folder. I did this, and it blew my dpe away. He seemed to go super...

    Desperately seeking DPE

Seems to be a regional problem. When I needed to take the checkride for instrument (in the Great Lakes area), I was mad the first DPE said it would be at least 14 days. I called another and was told 10 days, then another and was told 3 days. 3 days later I had an instrument rating.

student pilot looking to buy C150

OP, if you want to "bush fly", then a C140 make sense. Or, an air knocker (aeronca), an old taylorcraft, Stinson, etc

    Flying under the Charlie shelf

Personally, I'd be polite, but I'd say something like, "I'm clear your Charlie airspace and cancelling services, thanks."

Last survivor of an aviation mishap 82 years ago passes

Maybe he wanted to video the ground crew shutting down the zeppelin turbines.

    Flying under the Charlie shelf

Sounds to me like the OP is saying he is trying to work with them, but they are not letting him do what he wants to do while on their freq/with a code. So, as others have said, exit their airspace (if you are in it) and cancel their services until you are done, then call them back. Ez peezie...

Last survivor of an aviation mishap 82 years ago passes

Interesting article. I will pick one nit with the article: “As the Hindenburg started approaching Lakehurst, Doehner’s father pulled out his video camera to film the ground below.”
