    ForeFlight versions

As a CFI I force all students to get good at using paper first. I find those that don't learn paper first typically always lack pilotage and dead reckoning skills... Then when they get good at paper I show them how to properly use ForeFlight. Basic plan works great for PPL. Pro is nice with...

    EAA Lifetime Membership - Expired!

Well we all know that the lifetime membership is so that you can signal to other pilots your better than them, not about savings. :p

RV-12 Fatal Crash - Control Failure 6/6 Auburn, WA

Even then it should be impossible if there was the proper thread engagement.

RV-12 Fatal Crash - Control Failure 6/6 Auburn, WA

Now speaking of my RV-7A and not a 12 all pushrod rod ends are engaged by more than half the thread length so that if a jam nut comes loose and the tube happens to thread itself to an extend it still will not lose the other ends rod end. Maybe not the case for the -12 but I doubt it, that's a...

    Airventure Arrival Practice

One thing that throws people off a bit is when the controller last minute changes your dot. Adding power, flying low to the ground and many stop watching airspeed, then overshoot/float a lot. Many also fret too much about landing perfectly on their dot. Ummm, it's more of a ballpark, don't...

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

Ya I think you are correct. My EAA chapter has very few builders, at Osh though, it seems almost everyone I talk to was the builder. Still a lot of non-builders there for sure though

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

I would agree with the underlined. I have seen it too. My main point was that if it ever becomes a free for all with no checks it would not be good in the long run and that exceptions often don't end at exceptions. :)

    Oshkosh 2024 - Who's going?

Speak for yourself, I spent a lot of time building my homebuilt and want to talk to other homebuilders, the last thing I want to see is HBC getting over run with North 40 folk because of the prime location. HBC is sacred to a lot of people and a right of passage to many. One or two, we won't...

    Monday only - worth it?

Personally I think the airshow on Monday is usually lack luster but the social gatherings are bustling. Worth it? When is Osh not worth it!?! haha

Flight Plan Filed -- Told to Expect Different Route

Same, every time I go to Vegas I get a reroute about 50-100 miles out. Then they proceed to vector me nowhere close to that clearance. haha Those controllers down there have always been awesome though.

    Time between filing and flying

I have needed a pop up but tire of answering the onslaught of questions by ATC so if I have cell service I file with Foreflight in the air and pick it up right away.

    Low-cost, portable CO detector?

+1 Always lets me know when I'm on a long approach and CO somehow drafts back in a bit.

    ...

One of the better theories I have seen. Although now we are talking about the potential to fly small jets or even some turboprops; hardly small risk to the average GA pilot with that level of complexity. Yet again, a 3rd class doesn't address the risk you mentioned either. At the end of the...

    Which Engine Oil Analysis?

Blackstone, love em. Good reports, been using them since I finished my RV-7A. I will say though, I put more weight into seeing inside my filter though.

    ...

I personally doubt it as the reason. A lot less traffic in the flight levels compared to the terminal environment (not to underscore what center controllers do). If traffic was the concern we wouldn't be allowed into the busy terminal areas. With the current weight limitations not many...

    ...

I'm glad to see Basicmed getting expanded even more. I have never understood however why we are allowed to fly IFR in a busy Bravo, yet not allowed into the flight levels. The expansion doesn't open it up as much as a guy thinks to various aircraft if we are still needlessly limited to 18k...
