I afford flying by NOT doing this. I work a day job and run a hobby farm evenings and weekends. So naturally, I can't go on vacation which saves a lot of money. Made the mistake of jumping into aviation head first without saving up. Worst and best thing I ever did!

I took my ppl written in July at a PSI center. It was a very small building. The testing "booths" are little cubicles big enough to fit a large man[emoji846] and an 18-20" computer monitor. I didn't use the ASA test prep site, so not sure how navigation compares. The test is quite straight...
