Everyone should be taught how to do spins and spin recovery.

Yeah I was - had my go pro running and watched it back. Inadvertently had too much left aileron input during the stall causing a right spin. I eventually got it and stopped the spin entry to do it properly

Everyone should be taught how to do spins and spin recovery.

My recent lesson with Power On stalls I entered a spin 3 times because I had too much aileron input. I learned how to properly do it after My CFI recovered us, but I asked if we would do any spin training. He said no because it isn’t required for the PPL. That makes me slightly apprehensive...

    New York Metro Area

Hello All, Still studying to get my PPL but when that does happen I would love to take myself and my girlfriend to some good eats or cool places in the NJ/NY/PA area (after of course maintaining the currency requirement for the ability to carry passengers). For reference I would depart out of...

Going for IFR, ground school - Sporty's or King?

Look into Fly8MA.com. Just took their PPL course and it was very detailed. I would not be shocked if their IFR course was exactly the same

    David Clark H10-30

Just bought myself a pair for my PPL Flight Training. They are 'The Best Budget Aviation Headset Money can buy' according to many I have spoken to. They are passive reduction of sound which means there is no electrical system in the headset for noise reduction, but they are comfy and have a nice...

Good thing that I already have my written endorsement for Ground and plan on taking the written in the next few weeks. As soon as I got my medical in I completed my ground school training as soon as possible then started flying because I had my base education. Now I just need to keep flying and...

Average Dual Time Before Solo - I Know - Everyone is Different

Okay this thread is getting a bit out of hand. I am going to provide clarification because my original post may have misled. Money is not a factor when it comes to Aviation training. I mean yeah sure we all would save a buck if we could but would I rather spend an extra 2k on training or skip...

Average Dual Time Before Solo - I Know - Everyone is Different

My CFI Responded to my email and said 'We have an online Course that allows me to track your progress, but as it is clear to me knowledge wise, that you have already completed Ground school, there is no need for you to burn $350. Here is the Cessna branded training guide we use. Print it out...

Average Dual Time Before Solo - I Know - Everyone is Different

Yeah - I have heard some of my friends in CT/NY pay 185-200/hour for a 172 plus 60-75/hour of CFI time which is outrageous

Average Dual Time Before Solo - I Know - Everyone is Different

HA! I wish: Rates at OceanAire (KMJX) Cessna 172S WET/Hobbs Hour - $150 CFI for Flight Instruction - $50 CFI for Ground Instruction - $35 So if I have a 2 Hour Session but the Hobbs only says 1.3 the billing is as follows: C172S - $195 CFI Flight - $75 CFI Ground (0.7) - $30

Average Dual Time Before Solo - I Know - Everyone is Different

That’s a fair response and I was expecting that kind of response. My CFI seems really competent but does not use written lesson plans. I think the most I’ll be able to fly is once a week twice if I get a day off.

I agree on focusing on training and not micro managing but my reason was to get a gauge of what everyone has experienced. I plan on doing 1 session a week

Average Dual Time Before Solo - I Know - Everyone is Different

Edit 2/13/18 - It took 25 hours for me to solo and now that I'm at this point I realized the hours don't mean anything. I didn't understand this starting out. Now that I am at this point it makes a lot more sense. Also I pay $150/Hobbs Hour for a 172, and $50/CFI Hour Roughly I have spent...

Avonics Headset for the Private Student Pilot

Decided to go with the David Clark's. I liked the idea of having them as my secondary headset once I get my license and then upgrade as a gift for completion!

All, Maybe I should move my updates to a different thread to track my progress... thoughts? Had my second lesson yesterday. Avonics Headset for the Private Student Pilot

My FBO lets me rent one pair but they are a POS even my CFI said I should make an investment. He said David Clark 10-13.4 are the best bang for buck in the passive world. If I want to go into the ANR World there is obviously the Bose A20 but thats a SERIOUS investment. There is also the...

Avonics Headset for the Private Student Pilot

Hello All, Wondering about people's reccomendation on Aviation headsets. Is it worth spending $$$ for the ANR headset, or will a Passive David Clark do the job? I heard the phrase 'You get what you pay for' really applies here and if I wanted to shell out $850 for a Lightspeed Zulu 3 I want to...
