Apparent plane crash on TPC Scottsdale Golf Course

Unless the ASI had been replaced, Comanche would be MPH.

    Aviation headset

Everyone finds different comfortable levels in different set, some more than others. Possibly arkvet, you tried the DC H20-10? But I'd wager you tried one of their "older" legacy styles, with the oval ear cups and metal bands. I too found those to be worthy of the title "Clamp". But the...

    Aviation headset

I'd agree with those about getting an inexpensive used set on Ebay first, then possibly upgrade later. I recently scored a very nice used David Clark H20-10 on the 'bay for $115. VERY comfortable and very good passive noise reduction. Later if you decide to shell out the big clams for an...

So is this hike all the way to the top? I figured it was, maybe not?

    C182 vs PA-28 cabin width

I think part of the issue is that Cessna and some others measure the 182 from the door posts, which are 42". I recently became a co owner of a K model 182 (1967) and did just what SoCalPilot did and also came up with 44" for the 182.

    Mt. Washington in August

I'm planning our first long family trip in the 182 to New England late July/early August this summer. Going from Toledo, OH to Bar Harbor Maine. Its about 5 hours total, so I plan about 2 1/2 hrs, then stop at Finger Lakes regional 0G7 for lunch. From there its about 2.5 hrs to Bar Harbor...

    Talk Me Out of Speed

How far is your average mission? If its less than about 300nm, the speed difference just doesn't matter much. 200 nm at 137 kts = 1 hr and 25 mins 200 nm at 160 kts= 1 hr and 15 mins 300 nm at 137 kts = 2hrs and 10 mins 300 nm at 160 kts = 1hr and 52 mins So, how much is your time worth?

    Bourbon; hey, this is good.

Four Roses single barrel is excellent, their small batch is very good too. For everyday drinking, Evan Williams white label is nice and a great value too. I did part of the Bourbon trail this past spring, and Maker's Mark is a beautiful place. Their single barrel was my favorite during the...

    Loosing

The other thing that drives me nuts is when our manager here says something like "Julie got hurt earlier today, she broke her hand." Then when describing it to someone else, she says "Julie broke the hand". Not her hand, the hand. It's kinda weird sounding, almost like when someone refers to...

The one that drives me crazy is when someone tries to use the word moot, but says and spells it mute. Its MOOT!

    Mastering the Cessna 182 ?

One of the best tips was about using the carb heat to keep the carb temp at least 40 degF during the winter. My plane has a JPI engine analyzer that displays carb temp. Makes it very easy to keep tabs on it.

    Mastering the Cessna 182 ?

I just finished reading the Skylane pilots companion, what a great resource! I've got a bunch of tips and things to try out next time I fly. :)

    Mastering the Cessna 182 ?

Also, my ASI has both MPH and knots, but MPH is larger and on the outside, Knots is inside ring and rather hard to read. MPH for me. :)

    Mastering the Cessna 182 ?

Yeah, there wasn't anyone else in the pattern, so I could run it quickly. The one issue with the K model is the flaps are limited to 110mph, so you have to keep that speed somewhat in check on downwind anyway. I figure most 172s will be doing 90 kts on downwind, so if I'm going 100-110 mph, I...

    Mastering the Cessna 182 ?

Yesterday I spent an hour with a CFI and did a bunch of pattern work. Only bounced it on the main gear once, and then landed it fine. Temp was only in the 40's, so it climbed very well. I found that setting 23/23 on crosswind gave about 110 mph on downwind. Flaps 10 abeam, throttle to 15"...
