Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

You'll likely get varying opinions on this, but mine has sat, for various reasons, for several years now. When I go get it I won't be concerned about it at all since I've had it maintained during this time. A thorough pre-buy will determine the state of the engine and what work needs to be done...

Let's include the Part 23 rewrite while we're at it.

As long as weather is clear then I’ll be there.

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

Because real-world speeds are different from book speeds. I don't see 150kts in my M20C, but I do see ~140kts, which would make it more on par with the Tiger if the 139kts number is accurate.

Grumman Tiger Vs Mooney M20C or E

I'd also recommend checking out Mooney Space for Mooney specific information. I own an M20C and have had no issues with it. I have the Johnson bar and hydraulic flaps and, as mentioned above, they are very easy to maintain and the maintenance costs are relatively low. The 430W is still a good...

    ForeFlight 12.4 available for download.

I really like that the flight planner has been updated. It's much more usable on the iPhone now.

    ForeFlight update preview

Looks like a good update, especially for the iPhone. I'm glad they're adding the bubble planning and re-arranging the airport screen.

    New purchase suggestions!

Do you define IFR as being an IFR certified GPS? Mine was IFR certified when I bought it, just no GPS. I found it for within the range he is looking for at just a little over the halfway mark on engine life. This was several years ago now and the market is probably different, but I'm seeing some...

    New purchase suggestions!

I'm only one data point and everyone's experiences will likely vary, but my annuals haven't been expensive. My first one was because I had some additional, non-airworthiness squawks taken care of, but outside of that they have all been routine annuals.

    New purchase suggestions!

It appears that way. I have a M20C that I'm slowly upgrading so that seems to be what you were saying. If he intends to keep it for a long duration and doesn't mind spending the money over time, then this is a good way to go about it.

    New purchase suggestions!

This is what I was going to suggest. You can find a decent C or E model for that price range. Finding one that is IFR is reasonable, but don't expect a Garmin 750 to be in it. Biggest difference being that the C is 180HP carbureted and the E model is fuel injected. Both are short body Mooneys...

What's the TBO on the Franklin engines?

    Light Backcountry Plane

I'm not overly concerned about speed; I have the Mooney for that. :D The ability to get into the backcountry is what I'm after. It looks like a Stinson will do that and I can add the bigger tires if I so desire. There's some good YouTube videos out there on that. The other light backcountry...

    Light Backcountry Plane

I'm looking into the possibility of getting a light backcountry plane. Just curious on everyone's thoughts on the Stinson 108's. I've seen a few of them with bush wheels and they seem to have a variety of engines depending on the one you find. Anything from the original Franklins (which came in...

    Las Vegas Hangars

How's the hangar situation in Las Vegas? I may be spending some time there and would like to have a hangar. I've been spoiled where I'm at now, which I suspect won't be the case in Las Vegas. North Las Vegas (KVGT) is where I'm looking at, specifically. Any other information about Las Vegas...

    what does a checkout entail?

It depends on the requirements of whomever you're renting from but I've usually done a mini-check ride. Steep turns, stalls, a few landings, etc. They want to ensure you're competent to fly their aircraft without damaging it.

    IFR Written... nerves!

Annotating the plates is a good idea, especially with different color highlighters or colors in Fore Flight because it draws your eyes to the important parts immediately without having to spend time looking around, especially if it's a plate you're not familiar with. Good tip.
