St Francis Explaining Grass to God:

I like dandelions, violets, wild strawberry and Indian paint brush. Sometimes I mow around them so I can look at them longer. I only mow when I can see the grass sway as I fly over and the wind rows that result give the yard a terraced look. Mowing only every 2-4 weeks allows more time for...

100LL for the price of premium

I have a question. Why don't we see Gas Wars any more? When I was much younger one station would drop their price then every one would fight to be the lowest. Gas would go from 20 cents/gal down to 12-10 cents/gallon in a few days and stay there for a week before the prices went back up to 20...

    172 baggage compartment lock?

check other peoples keys. My mechanic misplaced mine. We looked through his pile of other "misplaced" keys and found some that worked. I think it was a Cessna door key that worked for my Piper mag switch.

Starting with a Tripe and making a Pacer

Check this site. page 14 of 16 has the landing gear conversion kits. My mechanic used to do the conversions by turning the gear around like Tom suggested but he recommends the Univair conversion. http://univairparts.com/pdfs/pa20_22.pdf Barb

    What are you flying?

I fly a Piper Tripacer for fun. I fell into kind of sideways the day after I got my license. It has taken me to more places (48 states/5 provinces and counting) and given me more stories to tell that any person deserves. Barb

    Worth repairing?

I'm still using my 17 yr old JVC 36" as my main TV. The picture is as good as the new Samsung LCD in the bedroom. And my 25 yr old JVC still has a pretty good picture too. Barb

    Great backcountry spots

The day I got here it was blowing something like 25G45 KTs. I can takeoff in a pinch at 41mph. It was an exciting landing! The ground was blowing up into the sky all around the airport.

    Great backcountry spots

Ah, I will neither confirm or deny that accusation. And it was getting to be a two day trip to find an airport I haven't landed at back home. Now I have an all new set. :cornut:

    Great backcountry spots

I would guess late spring to early fall. Both places have well maintained runways. I have been there in June and July. Smiley Creek had daytime temps up to 93*F and early AM temps of 28*F. Elevation is about 7000 ft. There is a pretty good restaruant across the street from the airport and last...

    Great backcountry spots

I'd come tomorrow if I could. I just started a new job in Wyoming, so I have to work a while to get some time off time. My Short Wing convention is in Spearfish SD this year (a whole 2 hours away) maybe I could make Missouri be on the way! :fcross:

    Great backcountry spots

Don't promote Smiley Creek too much. If it gets busy, I won't be able to sleep in the bathroom when it gets cold!! (The Shower stall is pretty comfortable) Barb

Sorry, no cell tower at 6Y9

Gary, You are from Marquette aren't you? Draw a line from Marquette to Iron River and the from Iron Mountain to Houghton. Where they cross is about where 6Y9 is (Sidnaw). Not much out there in the way of technology. Just a really nice airstrip, and some nice locals. Which makes for a real good...
