Math on rent vs buy on hangar (municipal airport)

What is status of hanger after 150 months? If you’re purchasing it (minus land) don’t you have the retained value of an asset which you can later sell? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    New 2020 G6 Cirrus

Would be nice to be filthy rich and get that I guess. I’ll fly my ‘62 Comanche 250 because that’s what fits my budget...and it’s a fun bird. I’m sure the new Cirrus would be fun too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Lots of crashes in the news lately

This hasn’t been a good weekend. These crashes always make me pause and question what I am doing. I think I read about the accidents in some manner hoping the accident was the result of some really bad decision making. This isn’t meant to disparage anyone - certainly not someone who died in a...

    Pilot Workshops IFR Mastery videos?

I really enjoy the program. It keeps me in the loop and thinking about many different IFR issues. It’s just to easy to get complacent after you get your ticket so I enjoy the monthly scenarios. I still haven’t completed all the backlog of previous scenarios. It’s worth the money to me. But I...

VIDEO:Flying Reindeer Fly to Sedona, AZ (KSEZ), Open Door Creates Distraction

Pretty incredible that an otherwise small issue with door not latched turned more dramatic and could have caused a more serious issue of it flex back and got stuck in elevator. Another lesson to learn. Thanks for sharing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    New Comanche Owner

It’s different but I think I’ll like it for IFR. Have to get used to looking at the VSI rate number displayed rather than the trend. Have to get the alt-hold looked at. Goes up and down. For now though I’ve got focus on just learning the planes feel and hitting the numbers on approach, etc...

    New Comanche Owner

Took the plunge and purchased a Comanche 250. Got my first 2 hrs in yesterday. Has Aspen Evolution, G430, S-Tec 50 and digital manifold and rpm gauges. A/P was having some trouble with alt hold. Will need to look at that. In the meantime it was fun to be able to climb to 6500 feet and get...

Which is the best Piper forum?

I think the Comanche forum on Delphi is the best for that aircraft: http://forums.delphiforums.com/Comanches Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Transient Hangar in December Hartford/Springfield Area?

Hangers space is non existent up here. Westover has community hanger space - not sure how they handle transient aircraft but probably could work something out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For the Attorneys on the Board.

Attorney. Didn’t know about this other aviation group. I may look into it. I guess it depends on what value it will bring to my flying. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Trade-A-Plane

That would seem crazy to me. It’s got to be adjusted by price and make. Someone selling a $900k cirrus isn’t paying $90K to advertise it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I got the "small airplanes are so dangerous talk today"...

I guess I don’t understand the sensitivity to non-pilots assessment of the danger of flying. It is dangerous. It’s a unforgiving hobby for most of us where bad decisions or equipment failure can be fatal. Most of the GA pilots don’t need to fly for work or even travel - we do so because we enjoy...

    SR-71 at Udvar Hazy

There was a fascinating series of podcast on show titled: “Podcasting on a Plane” about SR71 Pilots. Amazing that cruise flight was Mach 3. Episode 65 of the podcast had a fascinating story from pilot whose plane started oscillating up and down at over Mach 3 when all three flight computers went...

    Aircraft Financing and Flight Training

There is no issue with training on your own plane. It can’t be a plane used in a for-profit enterprise. I purchased a Comanche 250 and named my brother as additional pilot since he is CFI and he trains me. I don’t pay him since he’s my bro. If you both buy the plane then you can train him...

    Ironclad Strip and Paint Contract?

Yes this is true. I agree “ironclad contract” would imply something more than standard terms. My guess would be something that detailed would probably cause a shop to walk away from the work or mark up the price accordingly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Ironclad Strip and Paint Contract?

I always find this amazing. Yes I’m a lawyer. But I’ve had too many people walk into my office after getting screwed on a deal - some for serious money - and had nothing in writing. Sure, that isn’t fatal to your ability to collect but it’s much much harder and more expensive and less likely to...

    Air ambulance review.

It’s also being passed on to many who can’t afford it. Most medical providers have contracted-for rates. A $100 invoice gets paid at about $30 from Medicare. However since air ambulance operators are not subject to these billing regulations they are free to bill the patient directly for the...

    Air ambulance review.

The real problem with air ambulance service is that it is not governed by the same rules as other medical providers. Because they are governed by FAA, prices can’t be regulated. Whereas a hospital or other provider may have a contracted for rate - say Medicare or state Medicaid or what a BC/BS...
