    Cessna 172N P-lead length

According to my customer, the mechanic who saw the airplane stated there are multiple breaks in the shield, leading to intermittent failure to ground the mags. I know that they can be fabricated in the field, my customer wants new prefabricated p-leads. Even if I were to fabricate them myself...

    Cessna 172N P-lead length

I have to travel to replace p-leads on a C172N which has damaged p-leads. Another mechanic has noted them to be unrepairable and the aircraft therefore unairworthy. Time is not of of the essence, but I would like to only make one trip. For cost, availability, and quality customer wants to use...

Do You Wash Your Wife's Car?

Yes! Every chance I get! There are very few things I do for my wonderful wife that make her happier than me washing her car. I enjoy the whole process, knowing I am doing something for her.

    KLPR Dining

Hello all... My wife and I are planning to fly to KLPR, west of Cleveland, next weekend to adopt a puppy and celebrate our anniversary. We will be staying in the Elyria area and while we will have a car would prefer to stay in the suburbs. Looking for dining recommendations. We are thinking...

For Sale Horizon P-1000 Digital Tachometer.

Buyer beware... Horizon makes a good tachometer, but be aware that it is incompatible with some electronic ignitions including Pmag, and Surefly. Even more concerning service. Very often, they will simply refuse to transfer the STC to another plane. If so, they charge an exorbitant amount...

    Do Cessna 172/182 Breakup in-flight

"No strut-braced Cessna wing has ever failed in flight" is one of those commonly heard truisms in aviation. Apparently said by Steve Ells of Cessna Pilots Association. There are a LOT of strut-braced Cessnas out there (45,000 172s alone) so "not ever" would be hard to prove, but the numbers...

Thinking about a Reel Lawn Mower

I love manual reel mowers. There is something about the sound and the satisfaction that the mowing is all you, no gas or electric. Most can't get too close to walls or trees etc so take that into account Fiskars StaySharp and Scotts make good basic models in the $150-200 range. I have had...

    Is a $315k 1954 Cessna 180 Market Top?

Is the useful load really only 960 lbs? I really thought you could haul things in those planes.

SureFly Electronic Mag - who has one?

The horizon tachometer has two independent tachometers in the instrument. Each is run off of the p-leads of its respective magneto. If that magneto is grounded or the tachometer can't read the p-lead signal for that channel, you get a "0"

The E in PAVE we don’t talk about

Years and years ago before I knew anything about flying or W & B, I was boarding a Beech 99 with my wife and in laws. For W & B reasons, they were asking passenger weights on entry and keeping the cabin load distributed. My then mother-in-law without any hesitation said, "450 pounds." She was...

    Any one use DD-WRT here?

I used DD-WRT and OpenWRT for a number of years. They are something of an upgrade, but are more about flexibility and custom configuration rather than security or reliability per se. About 3 years ago I got rid of all of the consumer stuff for routing and wifi and went with Ubiquiti. Best...

    Digital Mag Timing Rite-System

I posted above about the DIY method. I just want to clarify something: The Rite System is a great tool. I have one and use it every time I install a mag or check timing. If something happened to mine, I would try to buy another. The brackets are nice. And the case keeps everything...

    Digital Mag Timing Rite-System

All this system is is a standard magneto box, a digital protractor, and plastic brackets to attach to the spinner. It is a nice setup, but you can DIY it quite easily. Here is a build-it-yourself magneto timer for $25: http://www.brewingtontech.com/ And here is the angle finder...

    Thinking About a Welding Helmet

Actually... The Vulcan ArcSafe from Harbor Freight is actually a very good helmet. I have two and am very happy with them. Large viewing area, multiple (4) arc sensors. Costs about $150, but often on sale. I work around a lot of different helmets, and this one compares with others in the...

Has anyone tried the new Bose Pro Flight in a piston plane?

FWIW, I got rid of all of my over ear headsets about a year ago. My wife and I love these: https://cqheadset.com They don't weigh a thing, and sound reduction is equal to over-ear ANC models.

    Aircraft paint prices 2019-2020

Has anyone tried the new Bose Pro Flight in a piston plane?

Aviation Consumer evaluated it about a year ago. Did not recommend for pistons or really for turboprops.
