Grumman Tiger, good bad and ugly

There is a reason for that. The market always determines what something is worth, or isn't.

Grumman Tiger, good bad and ugly

There are really no downsides to a Tiger in my opinion, other than good ones are hard to find and most have avionics fit for boat anchors. I bought one in 1993 for 26K. It had a mid-time engine and a decent King panel and Century a/p. I sold it around 4 years later for 45K. I'm guessing a...

Is six point egt worth it on an O-470

The CGR-30 is an excellent choice. You can get the basic which will give you fuel flow, EGT/CHT, OAT, RPM, etc. The higher level gives you MP and some other options. It's an excellent instrument. Total cost mostly depends on your shops familiarity and therefore labor time. Also no need to cut...

    Thoughts on a Cherokee 140 as a learner & 1st plane

As mentioned by another poster I would avoid considering any PA-28 at this point. You already know about the issue. It is too much of an unknown at this time, IMO. Look at a Grumman Cheetah. Not costly, holds 3, has 160HP. Cheap to maintain and easy to work on. No problem using it to train in...

    Garmin G5 blank display!

Yeah, somehow I got my versions mixed up with something else. Maybe the GTN. But, we did have that issue once, and after updating it didn't re-occur.

    Garmin G5 blank display!

G5's not starting up was a known issue with software version 6.5 and below I believe. Update to 6.51 or whatever the current version is. Yes, the workarounds upthread will work, but why not just get it fixed.

    New Piper vs New Tiger

Maybe re-read my post where I said it could make sense for Piper or Textron, due to their financial stability, to buy the type certificate and wind up with a better airframe than anything they currently have. Reading comprehension is not strong here.

    New Piper vs New Tiger

Depreciation. What's the value of these 3 seat planes when it's time for the flight schools to unload them? A Tiger would be valued by anyone looking for a 135 knot 4 place airplane that's actually fun to fly.

    New Piper vs New Tiger

How big is the market for the new Piper trainer? Apparently enough to justify their attempt here. There is no out of the box thinking by any of these companies, other than Cirrus. Flight schools would gobble up a 250K Tiger as fast as they could make them. Especially if C172's and this "new"...

    New Piper vs New Tiger

So with the recent announcement of the new Piper trainer at 250K, I was wondering about Grumman Tigers. I owned a 79 and it was a great plane. I know various entities have tried and failed to make a go of restarting the line. Apparently True Flight Aerospace owns the rights and tooling now but...

    New Garmin Avionics 3/25/19

So who wants to buy my two G5's. Only 10 hours! LOL

What aircraft to build time in

Are you instrument rated? Retract or not insurance companies like to see that.

    CT/Southern MA/Eastern NY Pilots?

Shepherd- Is that diner on the field? Way back when I first started flying I liked KPOU as there was the Warnock House you could walk to. They had a "bronto burger" that was worth the trip. I understand that closed years ago.

    Panel upgrade

I recently installed two G5's and the GFC500. We did eliminate the vacuum system but I don't have a line item for that. I would guess it was about an hour or so in labor. You will love the combo and I would stick with your T-ponder choice of the GTX345. It's a great unit. The GFC500 is fantastic.

    Recommend a goal aircraft.

As others have stated, the answer is a Tiger.

    Garmin G5 vs King KI300

Bendix King has gone from being the gold standard to a joke. Don't waste your time.

Cant tell if good deal. 1st plane

I owned a '79 Tiger and loved it. A few years ago when I got back into flying I went looking for one. Looked and looked and looked. Virtually every one for sale had the old Narco stuff, minimal if any a/p, etc. Nothing under 60K. A few that were updated had asking prices close to 100K. I bought...

    For Bonanza owners.

To try to answer some of the numerous questions posted here in no particular order: Turnbuckles in Bo's are no different than in most other planes. Over 10,000 Bonanzas built. Six have found issues. I'm having mine looked at anyway. The magnesium skins on the ruddervator can be re-skinned...

    Grooved ailerons and flaps

I think the weight of all those rivets offsets any weight savings in rib structure.
