    Deferred Class 3 Medical

If you are only looking for recreation, I believe you can apply for basic med since you once held a 3rd class medical. (Others would have to confirm that). An actual medical at this point would be SSRI pathway 2. It’s do-able. Long process and expensive.

New Federal Air Surgeon plans to reduce AMCD processing times...

Allowing an upload of documents alone will save weeks. Their mail/fax system is antiquated and terrible.

Why the FAA is so tough on alcoholics...

it’s the one kid on the playground who ruins it for everyone. Now the FAA takes its ball and goes home.

Why the FAA is so tough on alcoholics...

The biggest problem I see with marijuana...besides making people sound like idiots, is there is no viable on the spot testing for it. Determining level of influence is subjective unless there is some testing I am not aware of. So how is it enforced in regards to driving or anything that requires...

Why the FAA is so tough on alcoholics...

That’s scary stuff right there...after listening to the recordings and reading the toxicology report, does it not appear that this was pretty much a suicide mission rather than a relapse? HIMS wasn’t stopping that one.

Class 3 Medical and Past Medications

this means when you fill out the MedXpress (remember to print it at the time of filling out...it’s your only chance to do so) and take it to your AME for a consultation, make sure you cut off the confirmation number so the AME or nurse, or whoever can’t open your MedXpress in the FAA system...

I am in for a tough time getting my 3rd Class medical, and I could use any advice or encouragement.

Dr Bruce will tell you if you have a chance. Sounds like a tough one. Like Matthew said above. IF it’s possible, it won’t be cheap, easy, or fast. Having a record of a .224 BAC will, I would think, be labeled as tolerance from the FAA, which is lifetime of monitoring. So, your drinking days are...

Class 3 Medical and Past Medications

Beaker’s on the right track. It’s all going to boil down to what was coded for insurance. Unfortunately, there are many who have been bitten by this one. If you can find that out, you have a better chance of learning the path forward.

Good HIMS AME recommendations in Wisconsin/Illinois

I see Dr Bruce and live almost 600nm away. Twice a year, in person. I know you said he is not taking on new patients...but the point is, if you are able to find a GOOD one who can take you on, the travel should be the least of your concerns. How much money is time and money worth to you? You...

    Drinking too much

Ugh...the simple admittance of a possible problem will probably land you in HIMS. Get yourself figured out, of course...but be careful what you say and to whom. HIMS would certainly keep you accountable and maybe you need it...I would look long and hard at what your situation really is. HIMS or...

Where in the world can I find a HIMS Psychiatrist?

There are certainly more around. I don’t know if it is a big secret or something who these guys are...but I know there is one in the Philly area. Ask your AME for a guy in the Bryn Mawr area of Philly...my eval was FAR cheaper than 4500....but I don’t know if it varies based on what is entailed.

    3rd Class Medical Question

Well among the other issues the FAA will undoubtedly find in this one...documented anxiety over flying and looking to obtain a medical....to fly...might be cause for concern for the FAA.

    Another alcohol abuse question

I’m not really sure what kind of answer you’re looking for here. Honesty is the best policy....right? Of course honesty means you’ll probably get your medical pulled and have to join the dog and pony show to get it back. I’m pretty sure the FAA (not sure about the medical world) looks at...

    Taxiway landing video.

Well that’s a helicopter. They never land on the runway at my airport. They do hover the taxiways to parking though which I assume is normal...I don’t fly helicopters. Maybe just saving time at an empty airport.

Should I get my Psych Eval Prior to Submitting

I suspect the HIMS AME is correct. Getting all available info before submission will definitely speed things up. My guess would be a HIMS Psych would be needed or at least beneficial depending on the specifics. You would have to get that referral from your HIMS AME. The regular AME’s don’t seem...

How much extra time for rusty student...

I did my IFR training in 5 weeks...I feel like that is pretty accelerated. It’s a lot of work and extremely mentally draining. But do-able.

    Prospective Student: Am I Boned?

Well if I’m being honest, you aren’t really sounding like the “I’ll do what it takes” kind of person here so it makes me question whether you really even want it. Look through the forums here and you will find a ton of posts from people who have gone through/are going through hell to get issued...
