    First airplane purchase PA28 Help

Also you might find you use it as a two place plane. My family are not keen on flying in the tiny plane.

It’s also hard to judge what people meant. And what conditions. For some if it’s not a rocket ship it’s struggling. Ok I can see why you want to feel like there’s a big margin. Whatever the margins you can always find a way to use them up. The question is was it actually unsafe or just felt...

Single Engine down in Nashville - KJWN

If you heard the radio calls, he sounds resigned. Really sad if the issue is panic or resignation resulting in failure to conduct the engine out flow.

    Lycoming Engine replacement

And i would be fine burning jet a instead of 100ll. I think it’s possible just there hasn’t been a stable market for it to be done. I mean rotax runs at those high rpm for hours. And they are now the largest engine maker for aviation.

    Lycoming Engine replacement

150/152 prices makes no sense these days. Especially those over tbo still asking for an amount that adds up to over 100k if a replace engine is added on. With very basic panel.

    Lycoming Engine replacement

The whole thing about car engine is a bit of a myth. Sure they mostly run around 2-3k rpm, but no one counts hours on them. Some of them out there are many thousands of hours old and still runs. And we know there are actual auto diesel converted to certified aviation engines. Not cheap but...

Am I too big to be a CFI?

There aren’t that many 150/152 around flight school up here. Some have none. Mostly 172s. I think you should worry more about banging your head on the wing during walk around then if you are too big.

    First airplane purchase PA28 Help

And he’ll swear less at the POH, swear less during forced approach cause can see the spiral keys, swear less getting in if he’s a big guy, but swear more when he hits his shins on the gear or strut, more when the wing hides the field in the pattern, and a lot more when you slip off the foot...

Yeah you can do that. I prefer to have the flaps in for the lower nose. The whole high wing low wing thing.

The Hershey bar 180 aren’t part of the eddy current AD if that matters to you. Their glide will be a surprise to people used to a 172 or similar. Expect oh 7-800 fpm sink rate power off best glide. And that’s when way under gross. The single door is a real pain. The fire extinguisher is under...

    Bipolar plane owner

There are plenty of engines like that still flying daily. On condition is something to consider. Ours is close to tbo and last overhauled in 1997 I think. Some of the partners keep thinking it’ll go, but I’ll just keep up with the oil analysis and bore scoping. At one point we had a vibration...

    Bipolar plane owner

Welcome to ownership. It’s something I toy with the idea of owning the plane by myself. Then I remind myself that most of the time the two partners with more free time and closer to the airport takes care of all the maintenance events and all I have to do is pay my share of costs. Plus we have...

Propellers driving me True-ly nuts, any help?

Eh what? Most common GA is a Cessna 172 isn’t it and most of them are fixed pitch. Constant speed props have governors that change the pitch angle to try and maintain a prop speed constantly. It will have limits so at some point when it’s full fine pitch it’ll slow as you decrease power more...

    RSV vaccine

And yet you have the guy who had 217 mRNa shot and seems everything still works normally. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-68477735 I have a guy who reports to me who keeps talking to me about how mRNA is bad but happily goes for invasive surgeries including one where he ended up having an...

Masters of the Air--coming to Apple TV

I think the problem is while in Band of Brothers there is a lot of scope for action scenes, what can you show for bombers flying in a formation? How many shots of a gunner shooting at something can you do before it’s repetitive? They could have done more for the red tails. Might have led to...

That would be a hard cause to identify if that’s the case. And if that’s the case he would have to have forgotten the cause check flow on engine out.

    Eight alternators in 24 months!

I’d you have enough vibration to kill stuff every 30 hours, you should have lots of problems like cracked on metal bits like heat shields etc.

Would you be interested in some form of back-up propulsion for your piston single? If yes, how much would you be willing to pay for it?

Death. Once you are dead everything is safe. Bad jokes aside. Don’t we all mentally make that decision the risk is acceptable when we push the throttle forward for take off?

Would you be interested in some form of back-up propulsion for your piston single? If yes, how much would you be willing to pay for it?

Isn’t caps usable by 500 feet? And they say you should use it anyways if lower? I think really caps is about the most sensible backup for single engine lost of power. You can try this or that but a device that lets you come back down without dying passively is about as useful as you can get...
