    Lifter Failure

Identical customer here. First overhaul due to metal and low compressions was a bad cam, second one was bad lifters, and at this annual he came up with bottomed out compressions in two cylinders so they got overhauled, and the lifters were shot. Spalled, pitted, just extremely worn and they only...

    When was your first scare?

The pilot's pilot. In all seriousness in 500 hours I haven't had to deal with anything too scary. Partial engine failure after takeoff in a super cub, gear not coming down when it's supposed to (hydraulic failure), almost mowed over some deer one time at night. Nothing too bad. I do have...

    When was your first scare?

I almost died this week. I flew with another private pilot (non instrument rated) who was perfectly complacent with making 45° bank angle S-turns on final. I will never fly with him again. Ironically, he said he would never fly with me again because I had the guts to question his decision...

Lost my vacuum pump, severe VMC day

Can someone clarify wet vs. dry vac pumps for me? In my mind a "dry" pump is an electrically driven one, or one operated by any means other than plugging into the accessory case. The wet pumps are the traditional pumps driven off the accessory case. Is this right?

    DC headset repair

Absolutely awesome customer service. I'd rather give DC my money than any of the other manufacturers. Chances are they'll refurb your headset and give you somewhere in the neighborhood of an $80 bill. Well worth it.

    On the step...

I can see some validity to "flying" on the step. I fly a Seawind 3000 very regularly and it's not tolerant of changes in pitch during cruise. For example, if you stray a hundred or more feet below your altitude, the trim input or yoke input to get your altitude back scrubs off a considerable...

    Sold: 1967 Mooney M20E - $69K

Frickin sweet Mooney. Absolutely love it. I have some time in an F model with the 200 horse and all the good J mods - really nice combination. About the only thing I don't like with these old Mooneys is that damn fuel selector and how you have to go through "off" to change it. Best of luck with...

Time for Tire Change on a Saratoga?

We charge 1 hour each wheel to break down and reinstall a wheel to the aircraft, that's tire, tube, or both replacement. Why would you swing the gear after r&ring a tire/tube? You certainly don't need to be disconnecting gear door linkages on a PA32 to do this job.

    Finally Graduated

Congrats fellow young dude! Do good work, make good connections with people, be enthusiastic! Somebody told me when I was still in HS "it's not what you know, it's who you know". I find that to be pretty accurate.
